microsoft: you have to upgrade to windows 11

people: okay. it says my computer doesn't support windows 11

microsoft: you have to buy a new computer and upgrade to windows 11

tech industry: we just bought all the ram, buying a new computer is now 10x as expensive

microslop: ah well, nevertheless

hey while you're here check out the gay mario bros 3 game: https://kitsunegames.com/kitsunetails
Kitsune Tails

Explore the complicated relationships between kitsune and humans in this platforming follow up to Super Bernie World.

Kitsune Games
you don't actually need to tell me about linux
@eniko Have you heard about FreeBSD?

@webbop @eniko

Linux is for corporate sellouts! BSD is for supporters of the military industrial complex! You wanna hear all about Haiku / BeOS / this-super-kernel-thats-going-to-revolutionize-everything-that-I've-been-working-on-since-I-was-twelve-last-year, right? ๐Ÿ˜œ

@eniko you assume that I can survive the withdrawal that comes from not telling someone about Linux, FOSS, and the GPL.

You assume too much.

Joke aside, I saw kitsune tails ran on Linux when I bought it, but not on osx. So, I figured you had a Linux tester box at the very least. What engine did you use by the way? Something bespoke? (I haven't had time to play it yet.)

@theeclecticdyslexic I made my own engine using a custom framework that uses FNA/SDL on the backend
@eniko I think the issue is that people say the same thing each time, instead of new things. Iโ€™d be happy to be told about Linux if it wasnโ€™t the same โ€œyou should use Linuxโ€ each time.
@eniko ohhh so mint can work perfectly on laptop...? Did you set up some WiFi drivers or just install it and done...? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”
@eniko iโ€™ll buy a copy if it was on macOS. I know you probably get this a lot as a troll but i currently only macOS (where you can still turn off all the AI).

@eniko you forgot the :

microsoft : you are going to have AI inside your PC

people : we don't need that, can we opt out ?

microsoft : no it's part of the OS/SW now ..

people : ๐Ÿ˜ก

@eniko I like the subtle microsoft->microslop character arc

@eniko If for some reason you want to upgrade to 11 despite Microsoft claiming your computer doesn't support it, there are two ways:

  • if the only thing you're missing is new enough CPU (but you have TPM and Secure Boot), set HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup โ†’ AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU=dword:1 and the Setup will run (it'll show a warning, but let you continue)
  • if you don't have TPM and/or Secure Boot, run setup.exe /product server, and it'll ignore everything

OTOH, as long as you pretend to be in EU, you can register to receive security updates for Windows 10 for free until October. Or you can use the scripts from massgrave.dev to activate ESU.

@jernej__s @eniko

Just another point of info, that even for those in the USA, you can get extended security updates for Windows 10 until October for free if you use an MS account to log into the computers you want extended support on. It's what I am doing for a couple of desktops I need for my work, while finishing the last bits of migration of my studio's computers to MacOS, Ubuntu and Debian.

@eniko y'know that comic where someone says they enjoyed good omens and these creeping snakelike shadow figures emerge saying Discworld, Discworld, you should try Discworld, and there are more and more of them until the panels are completely overwhelmed with them and our guy suffocates beneath their recommendations

Well, brace for Linux dudes

@eniko @ifixcoinops

Brace?
If anything switching made me actually like using my computer again.

People should do it out of pure spite
You have wine and now winboat to run anything from microslop you may still need

@ifixcoinops bizarrely it was worse on bluesky than here
@ifixcoinops @eniko and Linux broads and Linux non-binaries. No need to assume.
@temporal_spider @eniko "The Linux People" = even more ominous
@eniko Chilling on a Linux mint. It works pretty fine and satiafy all my needs as a basic stuff like typing, serfing web and even playing games sometimes.
@eniko my tin foil hat theory is that the entire tech industry is planning and carrying out these things in order to push people away from owning a computer and instead paying for cloud computing as their desktop experience, privacy and security risks included

but the big tech sector appears to be profoundly stupid so there's no way they could possibly plan out such a thing

@eniko @inderix

At that point I just abandon all tech and take up terrorism as a new hobby

@inderix @eniko

Tech oligarchs are perfectly capable of colluding on a profitable global financial crash & on the eradication of general purpose computing

The evidence?

The fossil fuel money funding these tech fascists conduct a successful social engineering campaign to end democracy & fry the planet

The self-destructive goals may be dumb, but the people behind the tactics & propaganda aren't.

On The War On General Purpose Computing | TechCrunch

The powers that be want to control your phones and your drones. And who can blame them? It was inevitable. Of course they're upset that smartphones are making it hard to catch speeders. Of course manufacturers are hurrying to ensure that drones refuse to fly to certain locations, before they're forced to do so by law. Those are the instruments of power in today's and tomorrow's world.

TechCrunch

@eniko

At this point its just moronic
These idiots are going to crash the economy

Make sure to string them up when it all comes crashing down, they deserve a slow and painful exit from the mortal coil

@bussphomet @eniko What they do is on them, what you do is on you. Hang'em properly, no unnecessary suffering.
@eniko
People: f*ck off microslop, we will install Linux.
@eniko Come to Linux. You wonโ€™t regret it!

@eniko

Windows 11 might be the best thing ever to happen to Linux.

@rgulick @eniko

The biggest gift from Microsoft to Linux environment since Games For Windows, which led to Steam investing in Proton.

@eniko i still run 1 of 2 Win7 laptops i replaced Windows with Linux to avoid Win8.

I don't even wanna know how much money I saved over the years.. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

@eniko

"Of course - I understand. But I have this old ThinkPad with 4Gb RAM and it runs most Linux distros perfectly."

microsoft: "Not like that!"

@eniko

Shrug. I installed linux in 1995 and never looked back. Y'all have fun.

@lemgandi you do realize the post was a joke about the absurdity of the situation, not a complaint about my personal situation, right?

@eniko

Sigh. Grin. Yeh, but a lot of people have their ** stuck in that crack right now.

@eniko windows 11: mmm nom nom tasty bootloader
@eniko Microslop joins in on the thing making it harder to get new hardware, then demands new hardware be acquired to run their product.
I feel this is a company that should not exist any longer.
