Carriers using these Italian airports are being instructed to arrive with fuller tanks or to refuel elsewhere on the network. While the measures stop short of a full shutdown, they significantly reduce flexibility for airlines.

The last tanker of jet fuel from the Middle East for the Netherlands arrived at the Port of Rotterdam anchor zone yesterday. It left Kuwait on 23 February, before Trump and Netanyahu started their war.

Volgens Jeroen Groot, redacteur financiële markten en mede-auteur van het stuk, is de impact groot. ‘Dit is natuurlijk een ongekende situatie. De hele olie- en brandstofmarkt staat op zijn kop.’

The funny thing with aviation is that politicians have always kept taxes (if any) on it so low that lowering them hardly makes a difference.

Airline hedging strategies fall short as jet fuel price surges. They hedge against the price of crude oil, but jet fuel went up much faster. Raise ticket prices and/or make a loss.

There are many kinds of oil (Venezuelan is like peanut butter), refined products (e.g. jet fuel), oil byproducts (helium from Qatar), and ocean and domestic freight that depends on this. No flights from U.S. will depart for Amsterdam or London if they cant refuel for the return.

@Sustainable2050 AF-KLM price/earnings ratio is very attractive, but that could change drastically depending on their Q1 results. I read several years ago that the USA airlines, over their entire history, have lost more money than they have earned, so I think I will stay away from buying airline stocks

Bij elektrisch vliegen zit een adder onder het gras ter grootte van een 747 (of groter).😅

Waar een gewoon vliegtuig naar mate verder vliegt efficiënter vliegt doordat het gewicht (brandstof) verliest, blijft een elektrisch vliegtuig van start tot finish exact even zwaar.
Dat beperkt de range en beperkt daarnaast het startgewicht. Voor een landing kan geen vliegtuig geen gewicht lozen om nog veilig te kunnen landen.
