I have been lurking on a Vibe Coding community and these people are cooked
"Please tell me the magic spells you used"
"Ask ChatGPT for some magic spells then put those into Google AntiGravity"
"Do I need to use git in my frontend code?"
"My app is ready http://localhost:3000 how do I monetise?"
They talk about the different models like they have distinct personalities

Telling them to try posting this into their shell

:(){ :|:& };:

They absolutely do not comprehend the difference between git and GitHub
"How observing Vibe Coders cured my Imposter Syndrome"
There's not a single one of these fuckers you'd trust to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions printed on the heel
@pikesley you watching the Liverpool game then?
@pikesley Hahaha. I love that description.
@pikesley Hey, that means the whole AI slop is good for *something* at least...
@pikesley for me that was just working at a company, what's the difference between a regular Senior Software Engineer and a vibe coder? Both produce unmaintainable slop
@pikesley I knew my vibe coding had some use!!! Youre welcome 😀
@pikesley
Vibe coders also don't see a difference between code and bullshit.
@pikesley I can recommend a piggy bank next to the monitor. Also implement a conversion feature pointing to it for increased revenue. The target group and reach are small, but every startup starts small 😂😂
@pikesley that's because of all the vibes. They must be exhausted.
@pikesley /r/Vibecoding is my guilty pleasure. It's like watching a bunch of people totally high on paint argue about existential questions

@tante I am trying hard to think of an analogy for any other industry. Maybe it’s like being an MD doctor and going to one of these healing crystal conferences.

They’re turning coding into teaching: a high-skill job that is super valuable to society, but a lot of people disrespect it and think they could do it themselves just as well.

@pikesley

@paco @tante @pikesley

my guilty pleasure as a physicist was to read posts in flat-earthers' facebook groups, i saw so many wonderful proofs

@fsou I just came across this gem a few hours ago in my timeline that made me think of your guilty pleasures... ht @amiserabilist

"Whoever thinks NASA is really flying around the moon, I have a few questions. So, rockets use gas and fire, right? Or is it rocket fuel, whatever the hell they use, and fire? But doesn't fire need oxygen, and isn't there no oxygen in outer space? So, how would they use a rocket to fly around the moon, or even in 1972 when they supposedly landed on the moon, how did they leave the moon if there's no oxygen on the moon for the flame to work? Can someone help me make sense of this?"

@paco @tante @pikesley

paul (@[email protected])

Attached: 1 image @maxleibman they are con artists only interested in themselves and short term gain. technological advances and an educated society are an existential threat to them.

@paul @fsou @amiserabilist @paco @tante @pikesley Well the trouble is of course that if you Google lox you get "a fillet of brined salmon"... 🤣 🫣
@fubaroque Right.
Like if you are writing a math paper and google for help on LaTeX…
@paul @fsou @amiserabilist @tante @pikesley

@paco @paul @fsou @amiserabilist @tante @pikesley I hate it when my jokes are so very daddy that I have to explain I was joking... 🤣

Or? 🤔 Ah well, let's forget it. 😘

@paul @fsou @amiserabilist @paco @tante @pikesley @paco
Now I want to find this thread and see if anyone explained it because it's so cool how it works! They're so close they just don't know you can package up oxygen!
@cshlan I suspect there’s a bit more that they just don’t know. 😛
@fsou @paco @tante @pikesley The American Physical Society has a wonderful collection of crank letters and the like. One of my favorite stories: An editor told Feynman he couldn't call them "tadpole diagrams" because that's too undignified. Feynman replied that that was fine. Just call them "sperm diagrams." “Tadpole" was hastily approved. I did not actually see the correspondence, so I can't vouch for the story's authenticity.
@tante @pikesley I used to microdose this by teaching strangers about how technology actually works, but watching them invent reasons for things to work is honestly far more entertaining
@tante @davidgerard @pikesley i went to http://localhost:3000/r/Vibecoding and got an error 🤕
@pikesley This reminds me that the other day I went on Reddit & a post from r/eth popped up. I’d forgotten I joined it back in the day. The OP was asking what to do with all his graphics cards that were now gathering dust.
@superflippy @pikesley Somehow, running a BOINC instance and doing some good old math for the community seems to never be an option.
@pikesley First of all, love your username.
Second of all, this thread made skin peel off my skull a la NIcholas Cage in Ghost Rider.
