Me everyday now that I have solar panels:
@bigzaphod You need a cloud storage system
@bigzaphod That's also 80% of remaining Facebook users ๐Ÿ˜…
@bigzaphod where did they get my picture? Mine have produced more power than we use, since the fall of 2023.๐Ÿ˜ƒ
@bigzaphod ha, exactly! I hate those winter weeks when we canโ€™t run entirely off the sun!
@bigzaphod Also me after buying ANY astronomy gear.

@bigzaphod This is the reason why I'm eyeing those little wind turbines with lust. Things are almost as bad where I live as they are in Seattle, Washington, USA.

Edit: Hmm. Worse than Seattle?

@LovingFalloutLondon1954 @bigzaphod Trouble with turbines is that they are enormously dependent upon having a big enough swept area and smooth airflow to generate power. So if you can see your neighbour without a telescope you probably don't have room 8(
@bigzaphod Tell me about it! This large tree reduces my output on every sunny day during the winter, just when I need it most. The tree is mine, but to fell a mature Ash tree in pursuit of a "green" lifestyle would be absurd.

@ArborealTechie @bigzaphod

You might consider optimisers on the panels to keep the system working under shading.

Alternatively split the array into short strings to limit the impact of a couple of shaded panels.

@X31Andy @bigzaphod Thanks Andy. I went with the second option. I was negotiating with my DNO for 3 years. So had been monitoring the shading where the proposed shed was to be. There are 54 400W panels, split into 6 strings of 9. 4 strings on the roof, 2 on the front. Split to mitigate a crossing shadow. Shed was built for PV, south facing, 20 degree roof for summer, vertical panels for winter. Just added a post about it :-

Attached: 3 images We fitted solar thermal (hot water) panels when re-roofing in 2006. They've been great and very cost effective. Added solar PV around them in 2011. In 2023, using over 10 years import/export data I calculated the optimum extra PV/batteries needed to satisfy most of our power needs and covered a shed in PV. The shed is south facing with a 20 degree roof. The vertical panels help in winter.

@bigzaphod Mine are ordered and I will absolutely be doing this. But the battery will stop me telling my wife to run the washing machine overnight!
@bigzaphod in December/January I yell at mountains that switch of production half past 2 ๐Ÿซค here in Bavaria. Luckily the sun gets over that mountain pretty quick again after winter solstice.
@bigzaphod I thought this was a reference to Trump
@bigzaphod I have been able to power my old man rage using organic, artisanally sourced curmudeonness. Solar panels just made my yelling at clouds more environmentally friendly.
@bigzaphod @Heliograph Move hereโ€ฆ no clouds.
@bigzaphod @Heliograph 84% of possible sunshine hours have sunshine with over 3,800 hours per year of sunshine. Also I donโ€™t have solar which I should.
@Ronnie @bigzaphod @Heliograph NV Energy thanks you.
@larand @bigzaphod @Heliograph Theyโ€™d probably also like it if I was putting electricity back into their grid to help out with the peak times although, knock on wood, weโ€™ve never had issues like that. Apparently our electrical grid is very robust. The alternative to not having power is a lot of deaths so I guess they make it work.
@Ronnie @bigzaphod @Heliograph but then you have to deal with the Vegas heat. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@scifi451 @bigzaphod @Heliograph Your solar puts up some big numbers though.

I hate nights. Nights cost me a lot of money.
