As far as a lathe, maybe a pasta maker? Or maybe a meat grinder, since you’re turning a screw so it’s held at both ends and spins.

Deli slicer is obviously a planer.

Cheese grater is a rasp. Cheese slicer is a handheld wood planer.

@aurynn @timixretroplays When walking through the local dry-goods shop, I noticed an above-stairs/below-stairs class divide between the chrome-plated créme-brûlée blowtorches and the more utilitarian workshop blowtorches they also sell (both of which are the same size and presumably identical other than cosmetic aspects)

@aurynn Absolutely. some time ago when our kitchen mixer broke mid cake making I annoyed* my wife by finishing the mixing job in the garage.

* not purposefully, but the inevitable reaction she has when something doesn't go as planned.
