#Mastodon isn't difficult because of what you have to learn, it's difficult because of what you have to unlearn.
@Gustodon One of the most based meta toot I've seen
@ScriptFanix Thanks. I hope that's positive. 😅
@Gustodon So what's the way forward to make it less difficult? Friction kills engagement :/

@res260 I recommend:

- Using the Three Gates Rule for posts (i.e. Is this accurate? Is this necessary? Is this kind?)
- Listening and boosting instead of trying to speak more loudly in the hopes of being heard more broadly.
- Forget everything you learned on Twitter; this is a new path.

@Gustodon Ah I read this in the context of signups (onboarding the fediverse), but it seems you meant fediverse etiquette, yes?

@res260 I see; the ideas are related. I think the tendency towards compassion, understanding, and shared values should be a part of Mastodon's (and the Fediverse's) branding. I think people will like it here.

Beyond that, how to be a part of this should be part of our larger proselytizing, along with #Linux and #FOSS.

(Also, #ActivityPub kicks ass.)

@Gustodon @DrPen

Or … both.

@FiveSketches @Gustodon I think the things you unlearn are the things that seem 'hard' - to build your own network, to not have algorithms of premade feed content, to be social, not just grifting or *influencing* (🤑), to be patient, to have a good bio and look genuine and interesting to others, to lose snarkyness, to be respectful. Even on Blusky these things are increasingly rare.
@Gustodon Isn’t that true for everything in life??
@farah Interesting. I'll be thinking about that for a while.
