FYI, in case you haven't seen this.

Have you noticed how awkward it is to tell an academic the AI output they're using is fake info? Or the fact they're regularly 'talking' to a chatbot has made their communication sound weird and overly complex? Or you don't trust telling them anything, or believe anything they say anymore?

This is all happening to me. Ive either got inverse AI psychosis, or there's a psy-op to negate academic trust and quality simply through peer pressure to comply or die.

BREAKING: Signal, the #1 privacy protecting messaging app many of us rely on, is saying they will pull out of 🇨🇦 ENTIRELY if they're scoped into #BillC22 without large changes.

This should be our final alarm bell: we can have digital privacy or we can have legislation this broad and broken, not both!

Signal warns it would pull out of Canada if made to comply with lawful access bill

Secure messaging service says it will not weaken its encryption, privacy safeguards for government

Reminds me of the idea of Creativity Units (p. 617) in this book. CUs are monetised redeemable tokens to contribute to the knowledge economy. This book is more scifi than academic, but its really a spot on vision of what is now happening.

Access to Knowledge in the Age...
@timixretroplays all this thread is super important. Blogs or our own sites are the only thing that kinda might stick around, but even then, after we go, if no one maintains it, TLDs get resold, networks change or yank down stuff, etc etc.

Nothing on the internet is forever.

Oh sure, you might toot something funny that gets pasted all over Reddit and Threads and achieves some level of semi-permanence. But Reddit is well into the private equity value extraction phase, and I don't actually know anyone who even uses Threads.

Like Twitter, every website you use today was made by somebody, and like Twitter, every website will go functionally extinct some day. It's transient data on computers made by people, and those fail, in time.

they paid a ransom to criminals with nothing but a pinky promise they wouldn’t do more crimes and yet this linkedin notification makes it sound like they entered into a strategic partnership to deliver value for their customers
