Linux reaches new peak of 5.33% in Steam Hardware & Software Survey: March 2026 https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1sa2s6y/linux_reaches_new_peak_of_533_in_steam_hardware/
@nixCraft the future is now <3

@nixCraft

Surely the headline should be:

'I use Arch, btw' say 0.34% of gamers

@nixCraft Good to see it has been more convenient for people to change. Since changing my the problems I have encountered is when I shoot myself in the foot and break something in my system..
@nixCraft microsoft is a blessing, let's hope they continue to bloat their system 🙏
@nixCraft converted some of my friends to EndeavourOS and Bazzite and I'm sure they won't come back
@nixCraft and how many people is not sharing his stadistics in linux? usually linux users are more in the direction of not sharing information.
@eickot @nixCraft If they use Steam Steam already gets the data to define if game will run on your OS so they shouldn't use native app and use Lutris or some other platforms. But i don't think it'll be drastic change 0.5% at max because people trust Valve and Steam.

@Squirrel_767 @eickot @nixCraft I would think this data is sourced solely from the anonymous hardware survey Steam does once in a while.

But yeah, I personally love it when the survey pops up, even though I usually try to avoid sharing any data I don't have to, because it means I can contribute to the Linux number going up in these stats. 💙

@nixCraft the year of the linux desktop 2026!

@nixCraft Doing my part, I went a month without needing to touch Windows because everything just works on Cachy.

(with the exception of one specific game, and I suspect that's a snafu related to emulating Epic via Heroic Launcher, so I re-bought the game on sale via Steam)

@nixCraft Trying Bazzite for the first time, and it just works—and Linux Mint for non-gaming use
@nixCraft I had concerns about last month's survey because of the jump in languages and hardware usage. But this time it feels realistic (accounting from last month's correction of course), so I guess those numbers are real, which is really crazy!
@nixCraft Does Arch include other distros too, or is it only pure Arch?
