Linux reaches new peak of 5.33% in Steam Hardware & Software Survey: March 2026 https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1sa2s6y/linux_reaches_new_peak_of_533_in_steam_hardware/
@nixCraft and how many people is not sharing his stadistics in linux? usually linux users are more in the direction of not sharing information.
@eickot @nixCraft If they use Steam Steam already gets the data to define if game will run on your OS so they shouldn't use native app and use Lutris or some other platforms. But i don't think it'll be drastic change 0.5% at max because people trust Valve and Steam.

@Squirrel_767 @eickot @nixCraft I would think this data is sourced solely from the anonymous hardware survey Steam does once in a while.

But yeah, I personally love it when the survey pops up, even though I usually try to avoid sharing any data I don't have to, because it means I can contribute to the Linux number going up in these stats. 💙

@pavled @eickot @nixCraft Same here. I always close every possible telemetry unless it's a just beginned open source app or some trusted app like Steam. Also boosting the numbers for giving people courage is a big plus.
