any engineering problem that isn’t solvable by “hiring a bunch of autistic trans women” isn’t worth solving anyway
you think I’m joking, but you won’t find another demographic with so many highly talented (likely unemployed) engineers who will also more often than not refuse to work for arms manufacturers..
@ErinRose the most brilliant minds I’ve met in our industry are disproportionally this.
@ErinRose Both (I think) talented and unemployed so yep.
@ErinRose choosing to believe that this post is about the Artemis II toilet
@gsuberland if NASA employed more trans women the space toilet would work properly yeah

@gsuberland @ErinRose

Good god did they forget to put a loo on board?

@f800gecko @ErinRose they put one on there but they forgot to install a urine filter and when the astronauts tried to boot it up after fitting one it just showed a flashing yellow error light.
@ErinRose Cool. I have an autistic trans-woman at home.
@NickSchwanck @ErinRose autistic trans woman at home: [picture of a literal cat]
@emily @NickSchwanck @ErinRose :turns to camera and raises an eyebrow:

@ErinRose normies dream about winning the lottery or starting a successful company or something, and ending up with enough money to buy a private island or yacht or something.

My version of that dream is to have the budget to sic a highly trained squad of autistic transfems on a complex engineering problem which would benefit society but has been overlooked due to not being profitable. Buy them anything they ask for (within reason), open source the results, and watch the capitalists squirm.

@azonenberg @ErinRose highly trained (they're really far down the train enjoyer rabbit hole)
@ErinRose unfortunately some work for military contractors
@wyatt that’s why it’s “hiring a bunch of autistic trans women” not, “hiring a tiny subset of autistic trans women who would be willing to work for an arms manufacturer”
@ErinRose i'm not going to go into it too much but raytheon was known for being an especially "good" employer for LGBTQ+
So it's a fair number of them
Trans people aren't magically morally or ethically better and a fair number are awful
There are lots of autistic trans people on 4chan too. It's not as tiny a minority as you and I might hope. Although I do hope it's at least a minority, even if a sizable one

@wyatt This isn’t new information to me, you’re implying an argument that I am absolutely not making - Transfem engineers are not “magically” morally better, but as a consequence of our lived experience (and to some extent autistic traits) we’re a lot less likely to be willing to work for morally abhorrent companies.

many of the other transfem engineers I know in the UK are out of work at least in part because most engineering jobs here are in that sector..

and how is 4chan relevant to this?!

@ErinRose i made my case, it's 4 AM now, I don't want to argue about this right now
As for 4chan if you were ever a 4chan regular you'd probably understand what I mean, lots of neo nazis who are also some shade of queer and often trans if you look on the /lgbt/ board (I don't recommend, the whole place is terrible)

I personally am out of (meaningful/interest related) work because everything's in the defense industry here too.

Going to bed now, i really don't want to argue a ton about this, I can already tell it's not going to change anything because we're not sharing a common conception of what this is about (speaking across terms)
@ErinRose So I have to ask my gf? But I did study CS 🥺
