A letter to John Ternus – Marco.org

@marcoarment constructive question: when you say “Focus on making great computers with great user experiences above all else” do you mean macOS computers over iPhones? If so, do you think Apple could feasibly do that?
@marcoarment “it would be best if Apple were to do that but I can’t see them doing it” is of course a valid answer 😃

@CodingItWrong the most popular form of personal computing is phones.

Many average people only have a phone around the world.

@CodingItWrong @marcoarment in other words… “what’s a computer?” 😜
@marcoarment @siracusa You figure Tim is a lost cause?
@marcoarment Agreed with the sentiment, but the call of staying true to the founders doesn’t resonate within Apple. Apple engineers tend to think about doing what’s right for the user. In my years at Apple (during and after Jobs) I’ve never heard anyone mention “founders” as a concept to draw inspiration from. WWSJD is rarely a thing. Woz is never mentioned and has no significance in the company culture.
@shac @marcoarment Don't forget that Jobs told people explicitly to not think of what he'd do.

@shac @marcoarment And that is precisely why Apple are in this mess today: greed is massively out of hand, products are unattainable by 90% of the world, and software is plagued with issues.

They should get Woz in and start talking to him.

@marcoarment I would add to that: halve all product prices across the board. You’ll sell double the quantity, if not more, and make more then enough money as a result.

I’ll bet the margins are far higher than they need to be.

@dfgomes @marcoarment That’s the thing: It is never enough money. The goal is to grow forever and ever and earn more and more money to keep the shareholders happy.
Sadly that always seems to point towards enshittification and Apple is happily walking down that path.

@jramskov @marcoarment Exactly. Which is why the first thing the new CEO should do is buy back all the stock and take the company private. No shares or shareholders.

Let them focus on people and great, AFFORDABLE, computers for all mankind. Not just the rich.

@marcoarment Nice way to commemorate Apple’s fiftieth.
@marcoarment is this like a combo Apple 50th/April Fool’s thing? If so, BRAVO
@marcoarment Isn't it "affect change"?
@boxed I looked that up. I don't think so?
@marcoarment I can’t fuckin believe you remembered how to post to your blog, even leaving aside having the motivation to do it
@caseyliss It involved SSHing into my server and editing things in vim…
@marcoarment @caseyliss Congrats, Marco, you've developed the opposite of a content management system! 🎉
@marcoarment @caseyliss TopGear style challenge members special where you build the best personal blog CMS using LLMs (you each use a different agent & fight about that too ) as you record -- first one to make a complete post wins.
@marcoarment @caseyliss (John will cheat & claim he wins because he had the fewest tokens or some nonsense despite finishing last) ;p

@marcoarment @caseyliss

Claude, how can I post a blog post?

@caseyliss @marcoarment in the distance…”Bleep”
@marcoarment Time to edit your about page! https://marco.org/about
