Looking for explanations…Diesel subsidies for things other than food should be slashed, & even on food, should be gradually wound down to speed transition.
I don’t know a lot about long haul food transportation & electric tech to know if really big long haul EVs are yet a viable alternative. Maybe battery tech needs to evolve more first, but withdrawing diesel subsidies would stimulate battery tech investment. And long haul EV trains?

In the past 3 years the charging infrastructure has been rapidly built out. You can go from Gladstone in Queensland to Melbourne with a charging station every 50klm (approximately). That’s a massive achievement for nearly 2000klm distance.
If we hadn’t had the 10 years deliberate blocking of electrification by the Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison government. We would have been able to ride out this predictable crisis with almost no impact.

@luciedigitalni few years back i read article about interesting Oz initiative to make removable power-unit modules for heavy EV trucks, so instead of needing to keep trucks off-road for hours as batteries recharged, the whole modular unit was changed in minutes via forklift, at nominated waystations along main haulage routes. i thought it a pretty fab idea, so ofc it seems to have died a death @Susan60 @feather1952
