Here’s a glimmer of hope in #auspol, the awful mutual obligations part of our #welfare system looks set to get the boot.
Could this be the death of Australia’s nightmarish welfare system?

Mutual obligation is one of the last great shibboleths of Australian politics. Now the entire system is under scrutiny with potentially big implications for our welfare system.

Noting that the following dates and times relate specifically to Canberra, you may find the following interesting …

The winter solstice at 12:41 PM on 21 June is the point after which the total daylight each day starts getting longer (admittedly by only one second on 22 June but it then steadily picks up the pace each day).  However, it is more complicated than just a bit of extra daylight evenly shared between the morning and the afternoon from the solstice onwards.

The sun actually continues to sleep in past the solstice until 30 June when it will rise at 7:13 AM.  However, the earliest sunset occurs before the solstice on 12 June at 4:57 PM.
* From 12 June to the solstice, the total sunlight is decreasing each day because the loss of sunlight in the mornings is greater than the gain of sunlight in the afternoons;
* From the Solstice until 30 June, the total sunlight starts to increase each day because the gain of sunlight in the afternoons is greater than the continuing loss of sunlight in the mornings; and
* From 1 July onwards, there is a gain of sunlight in both the mornings and the afternoon.

So in summary, the afternoons are already getting longer (before the sunsets), but the mornings will get later (the sun rises later) until July.

I wonder how long it will be before we learn our great American allies used Pine Gap to supply Israel with targeting information!! #auspol

Netanyahu's long ambitions to strike Iran's nuclear sites could come at a cost

Protecting Israel is Netanyahu's brand, and being a strong man is something he wants to project to his constituents.

I hope Australia declines to join the USA on this one.

The actual solution to productivity is getting businesses to invest in training and tools for their employees. Hawke found this out when he provided incentives to Australian bus(nesses to invest in technology. Australia’s banks all bought and implemented new computer systems and networking in the 90’s which resulted in significant productivity boosts.
Business needs to embrace AI, additive manufacturing, get rid of crude gas/coal and move to high precision electric. Train your staff and provide incentives for them to reskill. Those that can’t reskill set them up in a long term solutions team to work on those problems that have been worked around for years.

Cutting wages and conditions is lazy Harvard MBA thinking. #auspol

Labor's productivity hopes need a bold program, not another roundtable

Let's never knock a summit, but let's not be taken in by the suggestion that the planned August meeting, involving employers, unions and the government, will mark some breakthrough moment.
