We’re doing this!
The US Army Corps of Engineers awarded the $691M construction contract for the juvenile salmon downstream fish passage project at Hanson Dam on the Green River. This is a huge milestone reached toward salmon recovery in Puget Sound!

I’ve been working on this since my first day at USACE in 2005. The project went on hold in 2011 due to budget issues. We are back on track, so this will be the biggest project of my career.

USACE Contract Award Finalized for Howard A. Hanson Dam Additional Water Storage Fish Passage

FlatironDragados and joint venture partner Aecon have finalized a $691 million contract to deliver the Howard A. Hanson Dam Additional Water Storage Fish Passage Facility.

@ncgleason Thank you for sharing and congratulations.

I found some some slides: https://www.mytpu.org/wp-content/uploads/Water-Fish-Passage.pdf but I'd love to learn more about the fish passage science and engineering that went into this. If you can think of any suggested readings, I'd love to learn more.

@weigand Thank you!
Yes that slide deck has the general design. I’m not sure what materials we have that are available for public distribution without a FOIA request. We had some new research conducted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the Bureau of Reclamation built us a 1:10 scale model for testing.

I’m off work next week, but once I’m back on 4/6, I can look at what’s already published and/or available to send out. Feel free to dm me as a reminder.
