I wonder who is the woman with the huge but very lovely hands who poses with all of the umbrellas and earbuds in aliexpress ads?

@futurebird

Umbrellas for action figures.

@Moondancer

No they are full size... they just use earwig wing folding technology.

(I long for an earwig-based umbrella. It would be so compact yet so elegant. )

@futurebird @Moondancer

Earwigs have wings‽

@poleguy @Moondancer

yes! they can fly. But they fold them up into a little backpack and people are always surprised. They are such magical little creatures.

@poleguy @Moondancer

The most unlikely angel.

@poleguy @Moondancer

would ya'll be into earwig tree toppers for next Christmas? I made my mom a winged queen ant and she didn't like it, but this might be more angle like and make it onto the tree this time...

@futurebird @poleguy @Moondancer I've long wondered what circumstances earwigs actually fly in. No matter how much I poke one I haven't seen it fly away

@vikxin @poleguy @Moondancer

They are like tiny superheroes and only use their power for good, they only fly if it's to save a life, or do a good deed. (OK I made that up, but I'll try to find out the real reason later.)

@futurebird @poleguy @Moondancer
Wow. I've been around earwigs my whole life, and I don't think I've ever seen one fly or with wings extended. I always wondered how these little crawling things managed to get EVERYWHERE.

@JSteven

I saw very few actually fly. The first time I saw one I did not recognise it until it landed and folded it´s wings in. It is kind of freaky the first time.

@futurebird @poleguy @Moondancer

@futurebird @poleguy @Moondancer I had *no" idea.

Now I need to answer why they had a congregation in my mailbox some time ago. I went to check the mail and found like 100 of these guys hanging out.

@gooba42 @poleguy @Moondancer

It was moist and the perfect flat and secret place.

They love the same conditions as firbrats and silverfish in some ways.

@poleguy @Moondancer

That scene from the Dark Crystal. But it's an earwig rescuing a silverfish.

"Wings? I don't have wings!"
"Of course not. You're not an earwig."

@futurebird @poleguy @Moondancer Weren't they both Gelflings, just male vs female?
@futurebird @poleguy @Moondancer my mind is blown. I see earwigs *constantly* in the garden, and frequently displace them when cleaning things up, and nothing I've done has ever provoked one to fly. Nor have I ever seen one anywhere but on (or very near) the ground. I've seen spiders fly (balloon) and they don't even have wings! I wonder what circumstances would cause an earwig to actually use theirs, if it's only at night or something?
@futurebird @Moondancer And every time you use the umbrella there's a significant chance you'll get irritated with the elaborate folding and bite the canopy off?
