This pic is a lot less about Lashunta and more about the things that give Lashunta nightmares. For anyone following my installments of "A Castrovel Adventure", Vaeol is currently writing her entries from a ship heading northward along the Shattersea Coast. Her shipmates' great fear is for something like this to burst from the water, attack the ship, and drag crew to watery deaths...or worse.

When it comes to environment, and especially to the kinds of threats one populates it with, a worldbuilder needs to make choices on what I've come to call the Fluffiness-Creepiness Scale. In essence, this determines how much you wish to reassure or disturb your world's visitors. It's interesting that, over time, things like Dragons have become 'cool', which in my view means that fluffiness has begun creeping in. Right now, I'm leaning toward alien creepiness factors, like these double-jawed, giant lamprey things, the kinds of things that gave HP Lovecraft and RE Howard inspiration, and create the impression that Lashunta (or Humans) are not quite so dominant on their planet as they would like to believe.
