Last time we gamed, we finished our long campaign in Pathfinder 2nd edition. Our party confronted and defeated Treerazer, an ancient demonic entity that had made his way to our world and was trying to remake it for himself.
It was a pretty tough fight, but we had done a lot of good things during the journey to this point, which meant that we had allies we could call upon in the final battle! We did not know this was how it was going to work, so it was pretty cool to see our prior good deeds get rewarded in that way.
We were able to call on one faction to completely distract him for a round (so he didn't attack any of us), we were able to get another ally to injure him, and there was another ally that would heal us all by 80 points apiece.
So that all helped a lot. Then we did a nice job with our parts - the Wizard had the right spells prepared, the Fighter had a newish feat that let her knock someone out of the air (handy when your opponent is flying), the Champion had an aura that came in WAY handy, and I managed to get the Big Bad to critically fail a save against my first spell, so he was taking round after round of persistent damage. And it was even MORE than normal, because it was damage he was extra vulnerable to. The persistent damage alone did over 100 points to this guy. That was really satisfying. Plus, he was vulnerable to Cold Iron and my warhammer was very effective.
One of the first things that our enemy did was cast a spell that gave him hit points back every round. The Wizard caught on and used his spell to "detonate" that magic. He did that even though everyone else was going to get hit when the detonation went off. We all voted for it because we knew we had to get rid of that regeneration.
It's a running joke that the Wizard is always blowing my character up (it's happened twice, so it's not really a thing. I just like to act like it is). So this time we milked that for all it was worth and I found it hilarious.
The detonation worked, and the regeneration was eliminated. That was awesome.
There was one point when I had to rush across the field of battle to heal the Fighter - she took a couple of nasty hits and wasn't going to last at that rate. But other than that, none of us were in extreme peril. Not like I had expected us to be, anyway. The Champion kept getting critted, but she had something that let her roll to see if it was truly a crit, or if it was just a regular hit. And dang she was rolling well with that! I think she transformed three critical hits into regular hits, and that made a big difference.
It was a lot of fun and we didn't get done until an hour and a half later than usual. It was a LONG fight, but it was a really good final battle for this saga. The DM did a great job and we all had a good time.
Our next adventure starts today. We will be playing D&D 3.5. I'm going to play a half-orc. We were told to each pick two classes, so I'm a Favored Soul/Fighter. We'll see how it goes. I have no idea what the campaign will be about (maybe an actual dungeon?). The Husband will be our DM and I'm really looking forward to it because he's my favorite DM.
