Okay, Firefox is OUT. What should I switch to? I'll leave out obvious NO's.

If I've left something out, please put it in a comment!

@Quasit

falkon because it goes along with the rest of the kde suite ...

I kind of miss ublock origin though.

@Quasit

eh #Ublock please port your delicious software to falkon, pretty please.
i'd really appreciate that, if you did.

@Quasit Brave has proven the least bad option to date provided I turn all the VPN, wallet, Rewards and Shields crap off and keep using uBlock Origin and ZeroOmega for Chromium generally. The Zotero Connector sometimes bugs out though and needs reinstalling. The built in password manager is annoying, I want to use KeePassXC.

@Quasit personally I have switched to WaterFox on every PC I have some control over. Mind you, I'm not saying WaterFox is perfect.

I would not touch Brave even with a zombiefied's monkey's rotting dick.

LibreWolf default settings are too... how can I say it... anal retentive... yeah, too stringent for my usage. LibreWolf can be tamed but the hassle is too much compared to WaterFox.

@afreytes
What's wrong with Brave? Serious question, because I don't know.

@Quasit Although this might have changed in 2026 (and the reason you should always do your due diligence), in the past the only people who recommended me to use it where cryptobros, that alone gives me the ick

Also, it's background is questionable, as seen here: https://www.spacebar.news/stop-using-brave-browser/

Stop using Brave Browser

Seriously.

@Quasit
I use Duck Duck Go.
And, thus far?
I'm happy with it, and;
It's worked well for me.
@erotica
I use DuckDuckGo for search, but I had forgotten about their browser. I'll have to see what it's a fork of, since I presume it's a fork of something!
@Quasit I made the switch to Vivaldi and LOVE IT. It's a fantastic browser, albeit one not running Firefox's rendering engine. The plus side is that those annoying Chromium-based extensions that never got modified for Firefox now work...

@Quasit Tor, and Mullvad for anything Tor breaks

Assuming you're not trying to get away from anything based on Firefox, due to the inclusion of Librewolf and Waterfox

@grayhaven
No idea! I was just looking for replacements, and I was only allowed four choices in the poll. And I knew damned well that Edge was out!
@Quasit Chromium browsers are obvious NOs...
@yoasif @Quasit Vanadium too?
@tadbithuman @yoasif
I've never heard of that one before!

@Quasit @tadbithuman @yoasif

Dude running Brave is a right winger unfortunately.

It's super easy for closed source software companies to smear FOSS developers, with just a hint, a rumor or an insinuation. And they have the big money megaphone to shout through. So easy to shut out FOSS through FUD.

"Hey, did you hear? RMS is a perv."

"Did you know that ESR is a supporter of communist China?"

"The author of Brave is...*gasp*...a right-winger."

That's all it takes. Nobody says, "Bill Gates is an evil man, hoarding wealth."

We need to change our mindset, separate the art from the artist & stop being so judgemental.

"Hey, did you know that Volkswagen is the brainchild of Adolf Hitler? What?!? You drive a VW? You are a nazi monster!!! Shame on YOU!!!!!"

"Did you know that IBM supported the Nazi war effort? You use chips that originated from the x8086 series? You are a horrible, horrible person!!!"

If the same lens were turned on the rumor-starters, they would burn!

Did you know that the merchandise you bought online, was handled by many people, as it was manufactured, packaged, and shipped to you? And that 17.3% of those people were...*gasp*...transphobes...21.9% were racists...11.5% have been known to say misogynistic things...and 29.8% don't wash their hands?

@Quasit If you want to avoid giving Google total control over the WWW, you have to stick to the web engine of Firefox and never choose Google's engine which, e.g., is used in Vivaldi. Unfortunately.
@Quasit I tried Vivaldi and Zen Browser, had issues with both. LibreWolf is my daily driver now.
