Karl Auerbach@Alice When playing a mandoline one can be sure that the sliced-off parts are finger-ends.
(Mandolins - the musical instrument - can be quite tough on the fingers until one develops a proper set of callouses.)
Aztec4Life@Alice can confirm. The little voice in my head said you should use that little thingy when you get close to the blade. Nah...I can get another slice before I need that...
