I grew up in #Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands. There we interact mainly in our own Frisian language, while the rest of the country speaks Dutch and or some dialects.

To me it is still the easiest to interact in my native language, but also comfortable in Dutch, English and less in German and even more less in French. 1/2

But I think it would be a great improvement if people all over the world would start to learn one universal language, next to their native one(s).

This will make it easier to understand each other and maybe prevent and stop stupid, future wars.

Hope to hear your opinions.

@Kletskous esperanto is seen as a hippy language. English is mostly the lingua franca

... Not perfect, but even in Asia they speak/learn this. Can't say that about Spanish unfortunately

@gbraad Yes, maybe English could be "the universal language", not per se against that. As long it is just one.
@gbraad
*Where* is #esperanto seen that way?
@Kletskous
@tuga @gbraad @Kletskous
It's possibly seen that way since I have hips and I speak #Esperanto. My bad 😉

@Kletskous
While I'm all for neutral bridge languages, #esperanto in particular, I think the only impact would be some more understanding and cultural interchange, but that's it.

Stupidity and corruption through power would remain.

It's a human nature problem, not a language problem.

@Kletskous

Avideco, envio kaj malamo faras tion.

Ne lingvo!

@Kletskous so this means they should also do an NT2 test 😅?
@gbraad haha no, Dutch is the main language thought to Frisian children at schools.
@Kletskous I know, but it is the same situation in a lot of places else. While the main language, they are more component in their family language. I do think more places should enforce/ make any other foreign language mandatory.
