"There's no I in TISM"

I was in #Sydney over the weekend seeing #TISM play at the Opera House (not a typo).

I've been a victim of TISM shows since the late 80's - the chaos, the mess, the contempt for the audience, the contempt for the music, especially their own.

I went mainly out of curiousity. Getting to Sydney is a pain in the arse but I really did need to see how a bunch of old men in their late-60's did their kind of show in that venue.

The Friday show was epic and did not disappoint - they opened playing the Opera House organ with a full choir singing Phillip Glass's Arse

There were ~5M high TISM puppets

There was the trade mark crowd surfing - I genuinely do not know how Les and Ron avoided injury diving into the Opera House seats.

Ron almost lost his undies but managed to keep them on, for once.

On Saturday night, their forever roadie, Jan Wilderbeast died - which explained why he wasn't at the Friday show (he is as much a feature of a TISM show as the band).

So Sunday's show had a very different tone. The crowd threw flowers onto the stage as a tribute to Jan (Andy) - which at the end of the show the band gathered up and gave to one of the women behind the stage.

They gave the show a red-hot crack and if you hadn't seen Friday's show, you may not have noticed that something was (understandably) off that night.

Some kid, about 12 years old (parenting done right?) managed to walk out with the inflatable kangaroo the band launched into the audience after "Give Up for Australia".

Could be the last time I see these old arseclowns and it was worth every minute.

Chaos, mirth and music - we're not dead, yet
