In Queensland all those under 16 years of age will be banned from all e-scooters & e-bikes. Over 16 & the minimum requirement is a learner licence. More powerful devices that can reach speeds of 25km/h require registration & insurance. #qldpol https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03-24/queensland-ebike-escooter-ban-children-licence-reforms/106487910
E-bike and e-scooter riders to require a licence in Qld under proposed laws

A raft of new rules around the use of e-mobility devices will be ushered in after the Queensland government accepted the recommendations from a parliamentary inquiry.

@Qldaah What an embarrassment. We’re living in a nanny state, honestly…
@stephengentle A lot of for, against and undecided responses to it across my platforms. Enforcement methods are key.
@Qldaah @stephengentle It is the lack of enforcement of vehicles that is the problem. Not the e-things.
But e-things are ridden by kids and young people.
Easy targets for the goons
@Qldaah this is worse than stupid. I can reach 60kph on my non-electric road bike with no licence or registration. But my speed limited 25kph e-bike will need a licence insurance and registration!
RAM drivers who can hardly see a 6ft 100kg man in bright colours will not see the licence plate under my backside so what’s the point?
@Old_IT_geek @Qldaah Once you are a fully registered vehicle then you the rider (if you get injured) and anyone you hit or injure will be covered by compulsory insurance. You the rider will also become subject to drink driving laws of a registered vehicle
@dalereardon @Qldaah Will I also be fined for not wearing a seat belt or using my phone while riding?
Cyclists on the road are already subject to drink “driving” laws.
