"From here to the Moreton Bay, e-bikes are here to stay!"
It was nice being around so many like-minded people at the protest against the new e-bike laws today. The new laws will prevent under-16s from operating even a pedal-assisted e-bike and cap e-bikes to 10km/h on shared paths and other paths that aren't exclusive to bicycles.
Crazy how the QLD regime wants to basically outlaw bikes and ban phrases that they don't like.
The main takeaway was that the laws are being reviewed by a committee which is taking submissions. If you ride an e-bike, or would ride one in the future, consider making a submission.
Bicycle Queensland have some info on their website: https://bq.org.au/news/defend-safe-legal-e-bike-use/

A peak body for primary school principals says it is worried abolishing public school fees will see more money flow to wealthier schools, but the SA education minister says all parents were "doing it tough" and federal funding would go to addressing inequality.
This sounds like quite a cool position, Science Leader in the QLD Govt Aquatic Ecosystem Health group.

The Aquatic Ecosystem Health team delivers essential water quality and ecological monitoring across Queensland, supporting regional and Great Barrier Reef report cards and evidence‑based environmental decisions. As Science Leader (PO6), you will guide high‑level scientific programs, lead research and innovation, and provide expert advice on complex aquatic ecosystem assessments. You will build strong partnerships with regional bodies, universities and government agencies, lead multidisciplinary teams, and drive the development of monitoring tools, reporting products and strategic policy insights that enhance Queensland’s waterway health. As a senior leader, you will also manage financial, capital, intellectual property and human resources, fostering a high‑performing, collaborative and solutions‑focused culture aligned with the department’s vision.
Well done Victoria & Tasmania. Big yay also to Queensland which after trialing 50c fares in 2024 decided to make them permanent.
This is what governance looks like.
Contrast Albanese following the #Scott🤡 strategy of ‘we’ll use taxpayer money to underwrite any losses experienced by corporate profiteers’.
Shame on you.
