The legacy of Mueller is that if you do diligent methodical careful work on a damning report, trusting to our institutions to do the right thing, damned liars will just tell damned lies about your work and the lies will stand, because institutions won't confront power and nobody does the reading.
The Mueller report should have been not only the end of Trump but the end of the Republican Party from rump to snout, and it's only one of maybe 1000 things that should have been that. What's needed now is a confrontation with uncomfortable truth and a meaningful lasting reckoning and reformation.

#Biden, even before taking office, even before appointing #MerrickGarland, followed the fine American tradition of NOT punishing the #Confederacy, #Nixon, #Epstein,… and proudly proclaimed he was going to scatter all Mueller evidence to the wind

Biden hopes to avoid divisive Trump investigations, preferring unity

Joe Biden has privately told advisers he doesn't want his presidency consumed by investigations into Donald Trump, five people familiar with the discussions said.

@rameshgupta the bowing down to bullies is integrated into US government. Gen 'whatever is entering the workforce' is figuring that out quickly.
@JuliusGoat Is Bill Barr still alive? If so, we should probably nail his ass to the wall

@JuliusGoat

In another political time, the Mueller report would have put such an administration in the grave. We are in different times.

If we want "meaninful reformation," we need a totally different way.

Follow my byline if interested.

@JuliusGoat Mueller knew Donald was a traitor, but he did the job required of him (couldn't prove it then, but I bet he could prove it now) and then trusted the president's criminal co-conspirators to tell the truth. Trust was his failure.

>> #Mueller knew Donald was a #traitor, but he did the job…(couldn't prove it then…)

He had enough receipts to conclude in his report that #Trump welcomed #Russia interference and benefitted from it, but he chose to hide behind the OLC memo that protected sitting presidents.

>> and then trusted the president's criminal co-conspirators to tell the truth. #Trust was his failure.

He also trusted next admin to finish the job, and #Biden, even after #Jan6, dropped the ball.

@JuliusGoat the legacy of #Mueller must also include his decision that, despite clear evidence he himself uncovered showing Trxmp's illegal attempt to cover up Russian interference, he chose not to find it conclusive as Trxmp was then a sitting president. His own assistant, who reveres Mueller, disagreed with this decision. If no one is above the law, then this stain on Muellers legacy must be acknowledged and condemned.

@JuliusGoat

American politics is terminally ill… the polarization complete and truth and integrity no longer seem to matter. Where to go from here?

@xs4me2 @JuliusGoat Just put a penalty on lying your ass off and enforce it in a sort of speed court. That should shut them up.
@xs4me2 @JuliusGoat See Russia.

@Lightfighter @JuliusGoat

Give Trump a few more months and it will be there indeed…

@xs4me2 @JuliusGoat and unfortunately Trump is just a symptom. My best guess is we flip both houses of Congress this year, and probably elect some corporate centrist Democrat in 28. But the Democrats won't fix the structural issues that allowed Trump to do what he has. Then some, much smarter tyrant comes along and completely destroys any semblance of democracy or freedom.

I hope I'm wrong. I'm too old for this shit.

@Lightfighter @JuliusGoat

I hope you are wrong too...

@JuliusGoat

Or perhaps that a true American will do what is needed from him even if the fools and idiots he reports to do not want to hear it.

@JuliusGoat I choose to re-read your words at the beginning of this, and choose hope - action, and hope.

thank you for writing

@JuliusGoat and that the watchers need to fucking shivv the hierarchy of power
@JuliusGoat - He definetly worked to get the truth out about Trumphony Baloney.
@JuliusGoat if you do the right thing the people who don’t will usually win. We bring casseroles to knife fights and wonder why we lose.

@JuliusGoat

Note: There was an institution within an institution (Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) that did methodical work, confirming Mueller's finding that Trump's 2016 campaign chair shared strategy with a Russian Intel operative and calling it a "grave counterintelligence threat."

But neither full Senate nor Congress stood up to Trump's lies about Mueller. https://rollcall.com/2020/08/18/senate-intelligence-committee-russian-interference-2016-election-report/

Senate report outlines ‘grave’ Russian threat in 2016 election interference probe

The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday released the final report on its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, finding numerous contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow posed a “grave” counterintelligence threat. “We found irrefutable evidence of Russian meddling,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., acting chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a statement, directly […]

Roll Call
@JuliusGoat he COULD have said at the top of his voice, "No, I did not FUCKING EXONERATE you!" But he did not, he just whispered it and the liars steamed over him...
