the pressure from social media worked. In systemd, age verification has finally been reverted and removed for good. Linux is always for privacy conscious users, it isn't just another Microslop SlopOS https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/41179 thanks @reddy_1975 for the heads up!

EDIT: they rejected the PR. So keep fight on! systemd folks are cowards and enabling this mess.

people don't realize this, but this is how they infect a good product and build surveillance network. today it is age verification for OS, tomorrow they will come with sex verification to target LGBQT+ groups or country verification to target minorities or immgirations, etc.

Meta, the evil corp who is behind this, wants everything trackable, starting with your age &d id verification, KYC, & whatnot. it is my computer, & i am not going to be tracked. it is the same reason you use an adblocker

I'm well aware PoW is problematic and that people are using XMR to buy weed online or whatever (because it's sufficiently close to cash in practice). I am more concerned about state control and the fucking Fourth Reich. sorry not sorry.

@deutrino personally I think that #Monero is by far the least worst #Cryptocurrency and anyone who thinks '#ProofOfStake is less problematic than #ProofOfWork' never made ends meet working for a company that deals with #Ethereum, #Solana and that whole shitshow.

  • Like this shit is way more #WastefulCmputing and it's not just creating a shitload more CPU load, but literally burns through #NVMe - #SSD|s, uses a shitload of #RAM and uses a so much #Bandwith to the point that a single node can easily saturate a 10Gbit/s NIC.

Besides, any money transaction that doesn't go through #AMEX, #VISA, #MasterCard, #PayPal, … is not generating revenue for genocidal #Billionaires & #TechBros like #PeterThiel that want to literally kill everyone but their own Billionaire Caste since they believe they can just upload their minds like they have the Didact'a Composer…

@kkarhan the people who hate PoW are typically focused on the climate impact of the electricity used, to the exclusion of all other considerations.

and I'm not saying it's a bad thing to be focused on. it's a major downside of the technology.

@deutrino Problem is they also don't consider that the problem is that #PoS is even more explicitly cncentrating wealth than #PoW.

That's why I say #Monero is tge "least worst", not the best, as it does at least keep it's commitment to #privacy and still keeps thriving amidst huge incentives not to do so.

  • To the point that I'd not be surprised if someday we'd see #XMR-backed #cash for the sub - 6' mark or a "#Fastnero" fork with block times aroubd 1s…
    • Cuz the only real (legitimate) complaint that I see around (besides "#Cryptocurrency = BAD!") is that it isn't fast enough for like #retail checkouts due to 2' per block, so worst-case it'll take 6' for a transaction to appear on-chain and be considered unrevokeable, and 24' till the transacted amount is spendable…

so much of the cryptocurrency 'evolutionary radiation' or whatever you want to call it resulted in complete garbage. but there are a few which do have some potential benefits.

I try to make a tiny donation whenever a free software project I use has an XMR address, just to make a point. it's about all I can do given that capital is not concentrated in my possession. :P

  • For Comparison, I've yet to find a #Stellar #Wallet that isn't garbage so I can get rid of this nonsense from #Keybase and have someone else have it.
