I lost #BikeNite Q3 yesterday, I am very sorry! But here it is. Happy #BikeMorning for those in my time zone!

@pete asks:

We've had a fair few questions on tyres, tubes, and valves and it's apparent from responses that we've posters who run all manner of setups.

Q3. What do you run and why? (For eg, have you made a conscious decision or just used whatever came with your bike? Tyres: Chosen for ride quality, durability, grip? Tubes: latex, butyl, TPU? Tubeless: fave sealant? any insert? etc, etc …)

@ascentale @pete @bikenite #bikenite last week's A3: In the drier parts of the year or if I'm mostly commuting, Schwalbe Marathons in 38mm[*], in the wetter parts or if I'm primarily on trails WTB Vulpine or Maxxis Rambler or similar in 40mm.

Running cheap-arse ("cyclami") TPU tubes for the last few thousand km, thought I'd try them and see if I liked them enough to buy tubolitos but they've been fine and temu has them for about $6 so I've just kept them. One puncture in that time and that was a pinch flat from hitting a rock (stupid). Tubes looked fine when I changed the tyres, the stick-on patches that came with it worked fine too.

[*] they're pretty much a 40 but with no knobs I guess that makes them 38.

@nickzoic @ascentale @pete @bikenite I run the cyclami as well, they don’t hold air well, but my only puncture (three times…) was from a tiny wire protruding through my tire. I couldn’t pull it out, so I covered it with butyl patches. #BikeNight
@rand @ascentale @pete @bikenite oh yeah that's an interesting point: they do lose air more rapidly than butyl tubes and also I think whereas (good condition) butyl tubes seem to very slowly lose air to about 20psi then stay there the TPU ones will go totally flat if left long enough. But I don't really mind checking on them and maybe topping up every week or so.
@rand @ascentale @pete @bikenite I'd be interested to hear if the Tubolito etc have the same issue.
