@ascentale @mdione @bikenite A2: Sydney is goat tracks with occasional straight lines where someone fell asleep and drew one by mistake. Even our heavy rail lines are the heavy rail version of goat tracks.

Alternative routes are ubiquitous except when broken by 1970's era motorways. Because of the low undulations the rail lines alternate between bridges and cuttings so roads and bike paths cross them with abandon.

Noch eine Impression von der #BikeNight gestern Nacht. Schön, dass einige Unerschrockene trotz Regengüssen dabei waren. Schade für die Leute, die das organisiert haben.
Es hat Spaß gemacht, in der Dämmerung durch die Marsch bis zum Haseldorfer Hafen zu fahren.
Besonders war die Rückfahrt: zu zweit im Dunklen am Deich nach Hause, vorsichtig zwischen den Schafen hindurch, Frösche quaken, huschende Schatten und sonst nichts.

@ascentale @MartyCormack @bikenite A5. Cargo quadricycle had just been fixed at the LBS. I'd ridden away and was on UC Davis campus when I noticed I somehow had a flat. My disabled hands cannot handle fixing a flat even if I know how. I was so dismayed because being on campus, I should have been near lots of people that could help, but the pandemic response super-charged UC Davis' ableism and I was isolated from my cohort. I couldn't reach my PI. So I called AAA and then they FREAKED about the fact I had a quadricycle instead of an upright bicycle and refused to send a van or truck to help. So I had to push, with my damaged hands/arms, and walk the cargo quad, with my damaged knees/feet more than a mile home. And pay extra for a mobile mech to come fix it. Once more. #CripTax #UCAccessNow #BikeNight

@ascentale @bikenite A8. This week was the week I finally got to ride the replacement recumbent. As my left knee is in a lot of pain and very tetchy, it couldn't have come soon enough. Life is much better with a ride.

The challenge is finding infrastructure that isn't ableist and/or car-centric. When places refuse to hold drivers accountable, we get infrastructure that is meant to keep drivers out, but also keeps disabled cyclists out. So we have to educate about these issues, and advocate for holding drivers accountable first & then when relying on barriers, make the barriers as accessible to all cyclists as possible.

@ascentale @marywordymary @bikenite I do not have any experience with them. I would consider getting one that might, for example, alert my phone that it had been tampered with, if I could find one like that. At least I would know something was happening.

I do find this testimonial from a bike shop about this wheel lock quite convincing: https://shop.plainbicycle.org/products/axa-defender-anniversary-edition. I'm planning to get one if I ever get a bike that isn't rust held together by paint and accessories.
