⚠️ 450 FSFE supporters affected: Payment provider Nexi cancelled us ⚠️

Our long-term payment provider, Nexi, has terminated our contract without prior notice.

As a result, our supporters’ recurring credit card and direct debit donations have been halted by them.

This affects more than 450 FSFE supporters, whom we have already informed by email.

450 FSFE supporters affected: Payment provider Nexi cancelled us ⚠️

Thanks for the heads up.

Nexi is now on a do not use list.

Presumably the action is bending to trumpist pressure. We need a very strong reaction from EU to stop such crap.

@Kerplunk @fsfe After reading their Wikipedia article, I'm thinking this has nothing to do with US/Trump, but that they try to re-sell that data in a dubious way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexi

@SchwarzeLocke @fsfe

To be honest I am unsure on Nexi, they may well have joined the institutions following trumpistani wishes to crush all of the left.

In any case, as far as I am concerned NEXI gets NO MORE BUSINESS from me.

@SchwarzeLocke @Kerplunk @fsfe Imagine being 15 years long a business partner of FSFE, just to stab their backs in the worst possible way... Such a shame!
@fsfe " to be specifically the usernames and passwords of our supporters. "
Sorry, did they really ask for passwords?!?
That sounds like an attempt to identity fraud or computer breakin. Both are a crime in most countries. Did you check the options to have them prosecuted?
(apart from the fact its impossible, cause a competent organisation does't have the passwords, only hashes)

@fsfe

Das muss man wohl im Einklang sehen mit:

"US orders diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives" 🫣

Exclusive: US orders diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives

President Donald Trump's administration has ordered U.S. diplomats to lobby against attempts to regulate U.S. tech companies' handling of foreigners' data, saying in an internal diplomatic cable seen by Reuters that such efforts could interfere with artificial intelligence-related services.

@fsfe great advertising for digital sovereignty when your europe based payment provider cancels you for no ever reason. Maybe the Wikipedia sites of Nexi need an update to reflect that.
@fsfe Wow, this is an awful story. Have you informed the press? @heiseonline
@fsfe cnsoder moving to someone stable like #Adyen
I have a standing order for a bank transfer via #SEPA. It goes directly to @fsfe, no man-in-the-middle, I have full control. Why is not everybody doing this?

@hebster @fsfe

Yeah. I am a free software supporter and shall pay by PayPal? Really?🤦‍♂️
I created a recurring SEPA transfer as well.

@formwandler
Hi,
I've tried yesterday to change my donation payment mode in my fsfe-account, but this seems to be nearly impossible.
I'd really like to change to an recurring bank transfer to fsfe, but where do I get this cryptic identifier for the text line of the transfer order? Can I just put in my fsfe-supporter number? Do I have to hash it

@hebster @fsfe

@christoph_haas

If you login to the FSFE website, you will get all the details to create the SEPA order (Dauerauftrag), especially what to set as order description (Verwendungszweck).

Correction: The order description is NOT the original support number, but some other identifier. So, you should login to get this.

@christoph_haas
Please write a short mail to [email protected] and we will assist you. Thank you for your support!
@formwandler @hebster @fsfe

@Ketakater @hebster
To prevent any misunderstandings and as the update to the new payment provider depend upon how you have donated to the FSFE in the past, we encourage all that have questions about how to update to the new payment provider to reach out to us under [email protected]
There we can clarify all individual cases and questions.

Thank you so much! 💚🩵💙

Hi, @fsfe I hope my donation helps. Its not big but send with love.
@Mr_N
Thank you. Every contribution is appreciated!!
@fsfe
@fsfe I am sorry to hear about the termination of the contract with Nexi, as it clearly causes an unfair burden on the FSFE and its supporters. However, as someone working in the IT sector, I find the narrative regarding the specific request for 'usernames and passwords' quite puzzling and, frankly, unlikely.
@fsfe Payment providers like Nexi already handle sensitive donor data and often possess more financial insights into transactions than the merchant itself. Furthermore, it is common knowledge in the IT world that psw should be encrypted or hashed; a major financial institution requesting plain-text passwords or access to authentication credentials during a 'risk analysis' would be a massive security breach in itself, which is hard to reconcile with banking compliance standards.
@fsfe While I support the FSFE’s commitment to privacy, this specific part of the explanation feels like a potential misunderstanding of the technical or legal terminology used during the audit. I believe providing more clarity on what exactly was requested (perhaps specific API access or KYC documentation?) would make the report more credible to the technical community.

@fsfe Disappointed to see FSFE move to Stripe/PayPal (US) after the Nexi fallout. For a foundation preaching EU sovereignty, why ignore European alternatives like Mollie, Adyen, or Satispay? #Privacy deserves an EU-based infrastructure

#DigitalSovereignty #FreeSoftware #FinTech #Nexi

@renato_gleforte @fsfe Klarna too.
I'm surely never using PayPal. I will not put money in the pocket of He Who Despises Us All.
