Why does the life of a person with autism have to be full of loneliness and isolation? That’s one of the main reasons why I hate my autism. 😥

I find that even though people know you are #neurodivergent, they don't know enough about it to make you comfortable. The only people I am truly comfortable with is family members who are also #AuDHD. Those who are not expect you to adapt to them rather than them trying to accommodate your way of thinking.
@dof It would be best if no one tried to conform, but if everyone simply respected others and accepted them for who they are.

Unfortunately, masking, while very stressful, is a necessary part of dealing with the #neurotypical people out there.

Even with masking, so many of us are socially awkward, or just cannot socialize at all.

My wife asked me once, if I am so uncomfortable with strangers, why do I sometimes go to a bar and engage in conversation with people I have never met? My answer is that everyone craves social contact at some level, and that the fact I have never seen them before, and probably never will again, somehow makes it easier to interact with them. It reduces the stress by a huge amount for me.
