Good news for our trans friends:

The European Court of Justice on Thursday ruled that European Union nations must provide transgender citizens with identification documents reflecting their "lived gender" rather than their gender at birth.

To translate this for non-EU people, it's the equivalent of the US supreme court (the ECJ here) ruling that states (the EU Member States here) must respect people's gender choices.

@joost Congratulations! Normally, my hope would be that this type of legislature would spread to the United States. With our current administration, I have no hope of that. That doesn't mean I'm bitter against anybody who is able to make use of this landmark decision! I wish you the best!
@AutumnBaum
Can't it be spread to America if another president besides Trump is elected?
@nuwagaba2 if that were the case, it's not that outside of the realm of possibility. Currently, he is in office until 2028. There is a backing supporting his third term, going against our country's constitution. There seems to be no respected boundary, protocol, or practice this man is not capable of walking over.
@AutumnBaum
According to the current situation in America forexample the violation of human rights by the ICE, the transgender violence, racism ,income inequalities and wars caused by Trump's regime, is there any possibility of a revolution that would change everything?
@nuwagaba2
That is my hope. Our system has failed, and it needs to be rebuilt. I am not in a position to fight for said revolution, as I am disabled, trans, and a transplant recipient. All I can do is this, and offer any help, support, within my skill set. There seems to be no organization to that end, however. We had 90 million people abstain from our last election, but I see no organization from said group. 90 million is enough to revolt. 90 million was enough to allow the greater of two evils.
@AutumnBaum
90 million is a good start. I have great hope that soon many people's eyes will be opened which will result into a great change. It's just about uniting people together against the same cause. Can I share with you about my project?
@nuwagaba2 What project is that?
@AutumnBaum
It's about fighting hunger in my community, I work with 12 young volunteer farmers to make this a reality by growing food for the needy, educate local farmers with advanced agricultural skills to help them improve on their production as well equip beginner farmers with required tools like seeds , fertilisers and organic pestcides to help them produce the best out of their gardens as well combat climate change through tree planting. Would you like some updates about it?
@nuwagaba2 That sounds like a just cause! I wish you the best in your endeavors, and I would help if I could. I believe that there's a beauty to returning to simple ways of survival. Not to mention, there's a certain satisfaction out of sustaining yourself off of your own work, your own food. Congratulations!

@AutumnBaum
Am really happy to hear the kind words from you which reminds us that we're not in this alone . You can support us through sharing and boosting our work on your network. @joost

I trust that the #british #ukgovernment is paying ATTENTION ?

Doubt it somehow, they have their heads firmly stuck
up #trump 's fat posterior.

Stop sex discrimination in #uk

@RichRARobi @joost The cigar-chomping-yacht-crowd (yes, I mean you Jo) would just scream something about brexit meaning brexit, anyway.

@RichRARobi @joost

Came here to complain about "Terf island"

@joost ... Amd then 4 years later they declare all those passports invalid like in the US?

Not good enough. Delete the category, gender does not belong on ID documents.

@KarlHeinzHasliP @joost

Just have check boxes for which sex related organs you have.

Check all that apply

  • [ ] Ovaries
  • [ ] Uterus
  • [ ] Testicles
  • [ ] Prostate
  • [ ] Penis
  • [ ] Vagina

Edit:
This was intended as sarcasm. I apologize for not indicating such. I was trying to push this to its illogical extreme because the truth is they will never be satisfied until non-conforming people are eliminated, one way or another.

@jrdepriest @KarlHeinzHasliP @joost

Those informations do not belong on ID documents either

@jrdepriest @KarlHeinzHasliP @joost

Worse : it would make post-surgery trans people especially visible

@Seiryn @jrdepriest @joost I believe it was meant with a /s for sarcasm. As in requiring gender markers is as absurd as requiring organ lists.
I hope we all agree that replacing the gender variable with space for an RSA public key would be highly preferred, assuming we do require any ID at all after the revolution.
@Seiryn @KarlHeinzHasliP @joost sorry, I added a clarifying edit. It was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek.
@jrdepriest @KarlHeinzHasliP @joost ah it sees, apologies, it sees to much people saying that seriously "because doctor need to know if you have an accident"
Apologies
@Seiryn @jrdepriest @joost
My response to those typically is: Yes, please put category "what doctors need to know about my body in an accident" on the ID. We can then put allergies and people to contact in there. No variable restrictions, just plain unicode.
@joost the interesting thing is that in the previous case (Hungary) - the court based their decision on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the right to control one’s data.
@joost and Portugal and its cryptofascist gov is trying to pass a law that says the opposite. fucking hell
