@bert_hubert The expertise exists within many European governments but does it reach where it's needed when so many factors are in play?

I’m looking for a new opportunity! Reaching out to this community in the hopes of finding a good fit. For decades, I’ve been in sysadmin, DevOps, and infrastructure engineering roles, with security and collaborative leanings. And for a potential shift, I’m open to roles in the IT space.

I’m most excited to put my energy towards mission-driven, sustainable, or public good endeavors. Remote is ideal, but I'm in the SF Bay Area. Feel free to reach out! Please boost for reach.

need one of those singing fish plaques except underneath it says "ceci n'est pas une pike"

Hello mastodon. I could use some help. #fedihire

TL;DR: I was laid off a while ago, and the traditional "go scour job sites and apply" is currently broken. So - let's try social media. Please boost if you are willing, or pass this along if you know someone who needs what I can offer.

I'll be brief: I'm a very experienced System Reliability Engineer, with a track record of dependability and scalability. I take people's problems - stability, uptime, scale, cost, durability, speed, security and attack resistance - and fix them. I have the dubious honor of generally costing less to employ than I save my employer. If everything is perfect - you don't need me. But if you do, you may need me badly.

I'm available. Drop me a note.

I am located in Ventura, California, and strongly prefer remote work. I don't require visas or special accommodation to work in the US.

Here's a resume: https://www.bortels.us/TBortels_Resume_2025_public.pdf

"Learn the difference between 'helping' and being 'helpy'"

~ @wendynather at #BSidesSEA

(If all you are doing is pointing at things and saying "look I found all these problems" you're not helping, you're being helpy... Being "helpy" allows you to claim that you're part of the process and a valuable part of the team and it makes you visible in meetings but doesn't actually improve anything.)

If you are an #academic in the #US with a position comparable to tenured or associate professor and a solid research track record in a field related to computer science (treat this in a very broad manner) and are interested in relocating to beautiful, liberal, safe, #Austria, then please reach out to me. We'd love to welcome new colleagues in the Austrian academia!

A couple of us are collecting profiles to potentially match with organizations that are looking to fund such opportunities. Full caveat: I don't yet have concrete positions confirmed, but am trying to get the funding bodies into position to do so.

Please boost!

Today has been a busy day for @freesewing

1) we released Freesewing v4, the next major version
2) we have migrated all our infrastructure out of the US (and into the EU)
3) we have launched our very own (and old school) forum for the benefit of our community

For more info and the _why_ behind the _what_, our newsletter edition from today has all the info: https://freesewing.eu/newsletter/2025q2

Thanks to all contributors who helped make this possible 🙏💜

2025 Spring edition | FreeSewing

Welcome to the 2025 Spring edition of the FreeSewing newsletter.

Today I learned that @freesewing has more newsletter subscribers than Troy Hunt.

That's not a dunk on Troy, but more of an _oh shit_ feeling (in a good way) because one always assumes that what we do is small and insignificant in comparison to what _famous people _ are up to.

Troy Hunt (@troyhunt@infosec.exchange)

It finally happened - I got phished. Impact is limited to the Mailchimp mailing list for my blog, brief blog post with details here and more to come later: https://www.troyhunt.com/a-sneaky-phish-just-grabbed-my-mailchimp-mailing-list/

Tailwind appreciation post:

I am happy TailwindCSS exists. I appreciate it's perhaps not for everyone, but for me, it significantly reduces the mental overhead of having to deal with CSS/HTML in two different places, and it makes it significantly more manageable to keep your UI consistent in a non-trivial project.

Obviously I'm not going to break it out for a one-pager, but for building complex UIs, it's a godsend.

If you haven't tried it, don't believe the haters:

Tailwind CSS - Rapidly build modern websites without ever leaving your HTML.

Tailwind CSS is a utility-first CSS framework for rapidly building modern websites without ever leaving your HTML.

I've also informed EuroDNS about this,
but I'm not sure what to do about the sender domain, and the domain hosting the linked target. I mean, maybe they are being abused and should be informed, maybe they are part of the badies' infrastructure.

Since I don't have time to dig into this (so exhausted) and EuroDNS is based in Luxembourg I hope it's ok to take the easy way out and tag @adulau instead 😇
