Also, it would really delight me if you start using the hashtag #deskdwellers for challenges you face as someone with a desk job.

How do you cope? Got any good tips for other Desk Dwellers to get more movement in? Good stretches for the neck and back aches? :)

@maaikees I don’t need to sell you on this, but: some regular weightlifting (light, I am made of twigs) is basically the only thing that keeps my back from randomly freaking out.

@maaikees Height-adjustable desk that allows me to do my work standing has been a game-changer for me.
Sometimes I add a walk-pad to the mix -- I can walk along at 1,5 km/h and still do my job. If I'm just reading, I can do 3 km/h.

@maaikees Go for a walk. Get outside, feel the sunshine (Or wind/rain). Detach from that desk occasionally.
#DeskDwellers

@maaikees Anything that helps moving my back. For me, that's swimming (no surprise here), but also the rowing & cross country skiing machines at the gym.

And, dare I say it, house hold chores. At least, that gets me any from my desk. 😀

#DeskDwellers

@maaikees making sure I move every 30 minutes or so has been a game changer. What was hardest is to get into a routine to get up and do that rather than sitting there for hours. Lower back pain has gone from doing this.

@maaikees 2 things that have helped were:

- neck training, nothing wild, just a couple of sets of neck curls and neck extensions a week
- getting up to do dead hangs off a chin up bar a few times during my shift.

@maaikees I got a standing-capable desk but hardly ever used it, till I got an off-brand Bosu ball (half a yoga ball in a base). You can bounce! which is MUCH more fun than standing. I feel like it strengthens my foot and ankle better too. #deskDwellers
@maaikees Also, deeply learning better body mechanics and slowly building better posture habits. The big ones were learning how to correctly rotate my shoulders back (not just pulled down/back) so my scapulae move naturally against my ribcage, and learning to correct my pelvic tilt (swayback) using abs. With those two things, you get your spine stacked properly in a way that feels natural and unforced. My knees unlock, my "tech neck" pulls back, even the arches of my feet are better positioned.
@earthtoneone Uh. The half-yogaball sounds intriguing. I find myself standing poorly at my desk. Thank you for the inspiration!
@nils_berger I should probably caveat that - it adds a lot of height, so check if your desk can go that high! Helps that I'm short 🙃
@maaikees Make sure that the top third of your monitor is at eye level when you’re looking straight ahead. If you need to raise your chair up to do this then get a footrest so your legs aren’t dangling.

@maaikees I never get tired of sharing this post by @mar15sa even though I don’t take it to heart enough myself.
