I’m building a new tool and looking for volunteers to test it! A #fediverse linktree. (UPDATE: https://hub.vocalcat.com )

It’s designed for two types of people:

Normies / newcomers – Think of it like a free, privacy-respecting Linktree. No trackers, no ads. But here's the cool part: it's a Trojan horse for the fediverse. Your profile link is itself an ActivityPub actor. That means people can interact with it directly in the fediverse, and it encourages exploration of open platforms.

Fediverse users, If you have multiple accounts (#Mastodon, #Pixelfed, Loops, a federated blog…), you know the struggle: sometimes you just want one persona to follow. This tool gives you that. It doesn’t post on its own (read-only), but it boosts all your other accounts and even has its own #ActivityPub inbox. PLUS it can receive and show your badges issued by @badgefed !

Interested in testing? Right now it only supports mastodon authentication, so if you have a mastodon account reach out in private mention for the invitation code.

@[email protected] .... okay I'm game. What do I do?
@mapache @jbz @badgefed Oh that is spiffy! I would definitely like to try it out!
@mapache very interested, would love to take a look!
@mapache

Very cool idea and I can immediately see how wide adoption of this can help make the Fediverse more visible. Sign me up!
Hi @mapache @badgefed that covers some real needs. A federated profile, with badges and automatically boosting one's other profiles. I'd love to test it.
@mapache @badgefed You’ve piqued my curiosity. I’m interested in being a tester.

@mapache

Hiya, yes, I would like to test this. I currently use @linkstack for this, so it'll be great to see how your system works. I will need to self-host though - will that be possible?

@mapache @badgefed Love to give it a try.
@mapache Never used a link tree. If you need that kind of tester.
@mapache I would be interested in kicking the tires too, please? Thank you!
@mapache @badgefed @kbsez very interested in testing this. :)
@mapache Sounds good. Let's try it out.
@mapache @badgefed Count me in. I have few accounts for different interests so it is up my alley.
@mapache @badgefed interested in testing! I am a member of a large international hobby group (30k+) that struggles with an over-reliance on FB. Getting more of them over here by making it easier to find others (and other features here) would be amazing
This sounds interesting, not sure how much use I'd get out of it, but I do love trying new things, that's how I wound up here

@mapache 🌟

Oh me oh my
I'd love to give this a try!

@mapache @badgefed
Does it have to be purple?
@mapache @badgefed interested, I'm essentially on masto and pixelfed with 2 different accounts as far as I know
@mapache @kotking @badgefed I like breaking new things.
@mapache Ooo, would love to test it out!
@mapache This is one of the most interesting ideas I've seen circulating around here, and I've seen a lot! Count me in to test it.
@mapache I'd love to test this!
@mapache @badgefed Looks very neat, I'd like to try it out

@mapache

I'm interested 😄

@mapache I'm definitely interested in checking it out. Thanks!
@mapache I'd love to test it. 🙂
@mapache I am interested to test it.
@mapache @badgefed I played around with something like this before Glitch shut down - basically an app which took the URLs for my fedi identities and created a page using the webfinger data for each of them, with tiles and links. Happy to have a look at your tool, this looks much nicer than my thing (and I'm hunting around trying to find the code for that now, and failing...)
Well, I guess we won’t be the only one out there pushing the wonders of trees this year, though ours serves a somewhat different audience. But I see a nice fit between this and what we’re doing. It’s going to be an interesting year.
@mapache I might be able to help to check it out
@mapache @badgefed I've only got 1 ActivityPub account that I regularly use, but I wouldn't be opposed to testing it for at least linking to my blog and other sites. Maybe I'll throw on my rarely used BookWyrm account to I suppose.
@mapache I'd like to try this out as well!
@mapache @badgefed hello! Very interested in testing, possibly also in digging around in the integration potential.
@mapache @badgefed Hey, yeah, I think I’d like to try it out!

@mapache @badgefed

Something that collates multiple Fediverse accounts into a single followable profile is an idea that makes absolute sense.

Especially so if there's an option to show the latest updates from each of the feeds as part of the link page.

(Bonus points if it also boosts RSS updates)

Would love to have a dabble!

@heathenstorm @badgefed

Absolutely! You hit the nail.

I think we can make a better linktree. We can have featured accounts, with people showing other accounts. We can have latest updates. We can allow normies to crosspost/boost from instagram, rss, bluesky, whatever. We can do many many things.

@mapache @badgefed

I am relatively new to this whole Fediverse thing. But why can't all tools be done in a way that they recognize an existing ID as the standard (or, in other words, I'd like to avoid multiple accounts in the first place)?

Is that possible?

@rolandwoldt @badgefed it is possible but technically difficult. There have been many discussions about it.

There was a time that you could login with your mastodon account in pixelfed. This is one of the most pressing things, id, portability, etc. It is definitely something the community wants to figure it out.
