I need #hope
Every day I wake up in a world ruled by evil people, and sometimes I think that all my efforts to be a decent human are worthless.
So #Fediverse , I need hope.
I'd love to know good news from around the world, things that can cheer me up and help me (and others like me) keep doing my part for a better society. I need to know there's still good in this world.
Thank you.

@gilraen79 your efforts are not worthless, even if lately it might feel like they are.
They are an important part of the many other small acts of kindness, respect, love and altruism that many other people around the world are doing to make the world better.
Let's keep it up, we need them more than ever!
@_61490 thank you. It's just exhausting, sometimes. I was happy to have finally bought, today, my Fairphone with /e/OS, to support their project (and because my phone is almost done, unfortunately), then I opened the news, and everything was overwhelming again.

@gilraen79

You are but a ripple in a pond. But enough ripples make a wave. Enough waves can break any barrier.

@draftexcluder I sincerely hope so, thank you so much 😊

@gilraen79 Off the top of my head: Oslo has had over a year without any traffic deaths, followed just this week by Helsinki at one year. So Vision Zero could be considered a proven blueprint. Also, it took 30 years, but Croatia cleared all the land mines. It wasn't a miracle, they just made it a budget line item.

Evil people are good at grabbing headlines, but they're not the whole story.

@harmoniousanger I didn't know about Croatia, thank you so much 😊 I knew about Olso, and I hope that our governments learn from it because that's an amazing news.
@gilraen79 here's a tiny thing that lifts my spirits perhaps more than justified. When I walk across a road at a pedestrian crossing I've taken to giving the traffic that stops a little thank-you wave. They do have to (legally) stop, but there's no reason I can't say thank you. So today it was the other way around, I stopped for a pedestrian. And she waved a thank-you. It felt good.
@rogerparkinson this is heartwarming indeed. Thank you so much for sharing it, I'm always lifted up by everyday gestures of kindness
@gilraen79 research has suggested that the shingles vaccine may help slow / stop Alzheimer’s.
I also read somewhere on here that the first person has been cured of terminal brain cancer.
It’s tough out there, there are good people doing good everywhere
@Charlydork the Alzheimer one is really good news. I had people affected with it in my family, and I know others struggling right now with this awful desease, so that's one of the best things I have heard so far. Thank you so much.
@gilraen79 yea me too, it is an awful disease, it made me so happy to read, glad I could share.
@gilraen79 Just knowing you care gives me hope in what sometimes feels like a hopeless world. Kind of realizing that is the price of self awareness. Just knowing how other people feel and recognizing that fundamental need to genuinely connect brings me hope. Being around people who care, no matter the distance apart, I sense is more real than to be around people nearby who dont. I too feel down and out sometimes, I get that feeling, that need of knowing theres more to look forward on. The fediverse seems to be exploring a deeper consciousness which isnt always a positive feed so asking questions means your looking towards the right direction! Thank you for being here and showing you care. Ive enjoyed your posts. Music can uplift, nature can too, sharing that with someone you care about enhances us more.
@gilraen79

The world is largely ruled by awful people. Not always, but right now it does feel that way.

They are the minority. Loud and obnoxious, but the minority. I keep meeting wonderful people. Folks who spend their lives helping other folks. Who care for the environment and our ecosystems. Who educate and nurture our future generations.

I don't know if humanity will survive another decade let alone another century. Maybe we are doomed to our own failings. I wont say stupidity. Plenty of smart people do stupid things. Humans are deeply flawed creatures. But we are also capable of compassion and kindness.

And every day is a new day to practice a little kindness for ourselves. Try to make this place a little better for everyone.
@ewen thank you. I know that evil people are a loud and obnoxious minority, but sometimes it feels they own the world we live in and we can't do much about it.
But I need to keep reminding myself that every little thing counts, and that I need to keep being kind. It's just hard, these days.
@gilraen79

It really is hard these days. It really is.
@ewen @gilraen79 and kindess to each other <3 solipsism is These People:)
@gilraen79 Kindness is the gift that keeps on giving and it benefits both giver and receiver. It spreads like the ripples on a pond - all you have to do is keep gently stirring the pond. A smile and a friendly 'hello' to a stranger is a magical, free gift. Doing something selfless, for the good of others or the environment - all these things cost nothing but have such great value, I have found. Do what you can and you, too, will benefit as much as those who receive your gifts.
@gilraen79, not sure if it qualifies as good news but I’ve been reading lots of personal blogs lately and find it quite therapeutic. It helps to see we collectively feel more or less the same about certain sensitive topics what definitely contributes to understanding the majority of us don’t want this madness for humanity. It feels like the reason why these legislations are released so urgently is us actually gaining more palpable power together — enough to change things. So I guess there’s hope

@gilraen79 I work in environmental conservation. The number of people voluntarily putting in huge amounts of work and their own resources to protect native plants and animals on their farms and rural properties here in Australia is incredible
@joannaholman this is another good news, thank you so much ❤️
@gilraen79 @ewen if you read fiction, you might want to check out the #hopepunk and #solarpunk hashtags here. Also #3GoodThings.
@deborahh @ewen I'll do that, thank you!
@gilraen79 I helped another international student get their first Australian job last week.
@rowlandm love this ❤️ thank you so much!

@draNgNon amazing news, thank you! ❤️

@gilraen79

I am sometimes called a naive person because I believe in the fact, that more people are good than bad. But I found the book of Roger Bregman „Im Grunde gut“ ( english „Human Kind“ ) and he tells me: I am right! Dont stop hope 😉
