A new day, a new um overcast grey day. But that's ok, managed to go back to sleep after 3:30 wakening. Hotel has an onsen, so off to that then breakfast. Remembered yukata goes on left over right; kid2 passed on a comment to "Please tie the obi around hips not waist"
#Breakfast is decent spread - I didn't put things on my rice directly and skipped the western stuff - pasta and bread and sweets (could have used the sausages) and also the masala curry (to be had with rice)

A very nice lunch a short walk from my conference. We had pre-ordered from the menu*, and I had picked the beef tendon stew (gyusuji nikomi) as I'd heard Tottori beef is pretty special. Perhaps not the best way to enjoy the specialness of beef, it was still was pretty good if a touch sweet. Miso soup had local clams
(Other pic is the double curry someone else ordered). Loved the pottery, serving dishes! The folk art museum is next door.

Holy shit batman! I can't believe this is happening in Tottori. I had told one of the other speakers I'd buy drinks 'after' conference stuff. First place we went to said members only, so I randomly chose another near by. Name wasn't great - "Misty Bar" but yowza! What a place! We (4) were the only ones there 9-10:30pm ! Expertly poured drinks (including a NA cocktail)! And I treated the other speaker to Japanese whiskey. Look at that ice!

Whaddya know - went back there, with others tonight.. there were 3 people there already.
We had some whiskey
(Nikka taketsuru, hakushu, Yoichi)
And a beer (Duvet) for one in our group
I mean look at the outside - would you ever know this place has been there 24 yrs!
Oh my post got swallowed midway before - so back here to tell you we did traipse back to Misty Bar in Tottori 3rd night in a row. I'd wanted a cocktail really but my Slovenian friend said let's have whiskey, so I asked if there were some (other) Japanese whiskeys and wow from hidden shelves he pulled out Kirin Fuji 10yr single cask stuff, then kind enough to give us pours from different cask bottlings so we could try both.

So then I asked if he had anything from Mars, but said how about this and pulled out some Ichiro's malt. Why not I said (I'm not likely to buy a bottle of that!) It was terrific! Another in our small group had sherry. Bar man asked if this was our last night in Tottori and when we said yes, gave us some liqueurs on the house to close out the night.

Magical bar this. Prev night a (German) photographer from Kyoto (20 yrs) said this is his favorite bar in Japan.

That's a special bar for sure - he's been there 24 years and wish him more.
Anyways, I had taken along from my hotel after dinner a bit of mezcal that I was packing for another friend, so I aliquoted him a bit of each for a taste, with notes. He said he would try it on Sat (it was Thursday night and he had to bicycle back home).

@SRDas Excellent whiskies. Were they NAS ?? I've noticed in recent years, Japanese whiskies lack age statements. We even went to Yoichi once and the offerings were disappointing.
@sister_ratched yes these were NAS. Next ones (last night - will post did have age)
