Quick question though, in the article they mention **some** features of the OS will be behind a subscription, wouldn't that mean that you would still be able to use essential features?

Either way, the fact existing computers that were designed to run Windows 11 are not going to be compatible with Windows 12 because of the NPU requirement bullshit already makes me glad I switched to Linux, it's like Microsoft knows. Being able to upgrade your operating system without having to buy an entirely new computer is a thing of the past it seems. :/

@NovemDecimal based on the information we have (which is unofficial leaks from insiders) it seems like the core of Windows will be a one-time purchase and some "advanced AI features" will be behind a subscription. This could mean better models, different functionalities, anything really. Leave it to Microslop, a.k.a. the Masters of Enshittification, to try to squeeze as much of extra cash as possible through aggressive nagging and dark patterns from customers who already paid for their OS.
@NovemDecimal the leaks also claim it's modular but you can bet you won't be able to disable Copilot and many other things Microslop want you to use, buy etc.

@jonsnow @NovemDecimal At least, having some ai slop paywalled makes it clear that it's not a unavoidable default....

I'm still never going to touch that stuff again. ;)
