Is there, like, a #transgender #sewing / #tailoring / #dressmaking community somewhere online?
@ratsnakegames ah. if there is, we'd like to join it.
@ireneista if there isn't, i might set one up - i have like three weeks of sewing experience but i mean, someone has to do it
@ratsnakegames do tell us, if you do, we'll join!
@ireneista @ratsnakegames very, very interested in this
@PetraOleum @ireneista @ratsnakegames Same, not very experienced but currently definitively having a "textile phase".
Currently, I'm talking myself out of buying a knitting machine before I've used the embroidery machine a bit more and the list of unfinished projects has gotten smaller (but it's an interesting offer ... ).
@doppelgrau @PetraOleum @ratsnakegames yeah sewing was a super important form of gender expression for us back in the Before Times; it's been a while since we did it regularly, but we still do projects now and then. we made a denim purse last year that we're really proud of.
@ratsnakegames @ireneista I have sewing experience but not much experience with or time for setting up communities πŸ˜… if you do, I'd love to join! And when I have the time, I can give advice and answer questions for people new to sewing (or people who just need help finding or editing patterns, which I assume is partly what this group would be for? since so many clothes sewing patterns out there are inaccessible to a lot of trans people)
@raphaelmorgan @ireneista yeah, that's a big part of why i am looking for a community specific for trans people! also, stuff like finding mannequins is a lot harder if your body is a bit atypical...
@ratsnakegames not exclusively transgender but freesewing.org is very good and inclusive if you haven't heard of it yet
Free Bespoke Sewing Patterns | FreeSewing

FreeSewing is open source software to generate bespoke sewing patterns, loved by home sewers and fashion entrepreneurs alike.

@Mae i'm aware and like what they do, but it isn't quite what i'm looking for

@ratsnakegames @Mae The sewcialists have a category dedicated to trans sewing: https://thesewcialists.com/category/theme-months/sewing-trans-joy/

The largest concentration of trans sewing people that I know of would be the Freesewing Discord. But it's been suggested twice in this thread already so 🀷

Still, for those reading along:

Sewcialists
@ratsnakegames Sounds like fun! I'd be interested too. I've made my own things on-and-off for some years and I know there's more to learn.
@ratsnakegames i made a post like this recently and came up short, as everything still seems to be facebook-based. but out of this came the #queerSew hashtag, feel free to follow and use
@ratsnakegames maybe some overlap with the #freesewing crowd?
@finn probably, but hashtags are not really the same thing as communities (and even most of the FreeSewing discussion on here happens outside of the #FreeSewing hashtag)
@ratsnakegames oh, yeah, certainly -- that was more of a signpost towards where an answer might be than an answer
@ratsnakegames Have you tried ravelry?
@ratsnakegames I’d be super keen to join one!
@ratsnakegames
If only I could have enough free time to do it.. 😒
@ratsnakegames Maybe Niqqi Van der Aa of RichardRobinson would be an ally in this?

@ratsnakegames haven't found a specific community yet, but trans and sewing here.

I use my Pixelfed account for experimenting with image first federated social media and keep most of my sewing content there: @[email protected].

My sewing vibe is mostly historical inspired and skirts that are actually long enough, tall trans femme problems and all that.

@ratsnakegames did you find anything on this since posting it? im also very curious
@mar i got recommendations for the FreeSewing discord which has lots of trans folx on it, but aside from that, unfortunately no.
