Some terrifically titled papers from a discovered collection of NASA research documents found in a skip

(with thanks to @JuliaRez for the original pic)

Some more for amusement.
@NanoRaptor are there pdfs or other readable forms of these documents?
@NanoRaptor @lieter there are, of the originals. For example, the one on systems failures (nasa-tn-6193) is actually about vanes, and can be found here:
https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19710013639
Dynamic and static wind tunnel tests of a flow direction vane - NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

Low-inertia flow-direction vane static and dynamic wind tunnel tests at subsonic and supersonic speeds for in-flight measurement of bust velocities

@cowman @NanoRaptor @lieter if i understand correctly, some real documents have the same ID, as would be predictable for simple numbering schemes, but the document presented are fictional, sadly https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19660024693 is not about the cognitive load of acronyms (but author attribution is correct, suggesting only the name was changed). And https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19710010669 is not about systems never intended to work.
Electrical resistivity and conductivity of tungsten-fiber-reinforced copper composites - NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

Electric resistivity and conductivity of tungsten- fiber-reinforced copper composites made by liquid phase infiltration techniques

@NanoRaptor totally believable title on that David Mitchell work ... regardless of which David Mitchell penned it ...

@NanoRaptor @mherbert Brilliant.

Also one to offer up for free:

Forensic Analysis of Dilemma Avoidance by a Hasty but Thorough Intentional Nomenclature versus Nomenclative Intent Through Haste

By Hennimore

@NanoRaptor OMG the David Mitchell one is so on point.
@NanoRaptor love the first one 🥰

@NanoRaptor "By Dana Scully, M.D."

Think Mulder had a hand in there?

@thor @NanoRaptor
by Ron Swanson
Parks and Recreation Department
Pawnee, Indiana 47909
August 1963

The date look sus. 🤔

@ThePolishDispatch @NanoRaptor 1963? Although I wasn't born yet back then, I'm pretty sure someone was - and NASA is founded in 1958, so not completely off the chart...
Ron Swanson - Wikipedia

@ThePolishDispatch @NanoRaptor yeah ok, I didn't get that referece :) The wikipedia page doesn't offer him a birth year - and le'chat confirms that he "had his birth date redacted from government records" so...ok, yes he's probably not THAT old... unless he had a facelift to eff with government officials and he's actually born in '43...
@thor @NanoRaptor It sounds like that Marvin chap might be need some help with his mental health
@Pionir @NanoRaptor nah, he's in for a blast at the restaurant at the end of the universe, ain't he? :)
@NanoRaptor "Marvin P. Android" 👏
@NanoRaptor "Required LM modifications if the moon does turn out to be made of cheese"
@NanoRaptor
ON THE ABSENCE OF A SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR THE PHENOMENON REFERRED TO AS "THE WHAMMY"
Scully for the win, always. (Great episode.)
@NanoRaptor that last one sounds like a nineteenth century comic novel
@NanoRaptor the name choices here are *chef's kiss*. I had to go back and re-read the David Mitchell one so I could hear it in his voice.
@NanoRaptor is that Styrene in "NASA TECHNICAL NOTE"?
@NanoRaptor who gave Marvin, P. Android IRB approval to write this distressingly accurate summary of my life???
@NanoRaptor i love the Marvin one
@NanoRaptor I am sure as hell using some of these as chapter titles if I can
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez never sure if stuff you post is based in fact or pure fiction

@16af93 @NanoRaptor @JuliaRez

I would have been sure they were factual, if they had been attached to clipboards.

@isol @16af93 @NanoRaptor @JuliaRez
That would only have provided a mere perception of authority.

@16af93

@NanoRaptor

I totally skipdove the original set, because Hackers.

@JuliaRez they're TRASHINGGGGG!
@NanoRaptor
Quality ✨
I was only convinced it's not real after reading 4 titles. 🙇‍♂️
@JuliaRez
@viraptor @NanoRaptor @JuliaRez Good on you -- it took me until "exposed to repeated meetings" to be convinced.
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SUBSTANCES EXPOSED TO REPEATED MEETINGS
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez pretty sure most of them have been copied and enriched by Aperture Science Enrichment Center.
@patpro @NanoRaptor @JuliaRez my first thought, too! 😅

And here we are! I’ve reinstalled Portal on my gaming rig and I hold @NanoRaptor responsible for it! :D

@JuliaRez @schwaigbub

@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez
Expanding out your work from IT, eh?
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez Don't see any titled "The durability of rubber O Rings in maintaining their shape whilst exposed to cold temperatures" dated before January 28, 1986. If you know, you know.
@CottonCandyandRazorblades
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez
or "Bayesian modelling of safety margins in face of newly discovered failure modes"

@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez on the repeated survival of systems never intended to work 😭

Thanks for sharing!

@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez
My body is defined as UNEXPECTED WOBBLE IN A RIGIDLY NON-WOBBLING SYSTEM.
@JuliaRez @NanoRaptor
Tag yourself, I'm "ANOMALOUS RESULTS WHICH PERSIST DESPITE STRONG MANAGEMENT DISAPPROVAL".
@dec23k @JuliaRez @NanoRaptor I came here to do literally this, and also same
@NanoRaptor Thanks 😂I needed the laugh 🤣
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez Hmmm TN-D-7894 is actually titled "Effect of adsorbed chlorine and oxygen on shear strength of iron and copper junctions" according to the NASA Technical Reports Server. I think some shenanigans may be afoot here.

@duk3luk3 @NanoRaptor @JuliaRez I also came to this unfortunate conclusion, still a good joke and I'd like to post some of these around my cubicle

I did also learn about the NTRS in the process, so that's neat

@NanoRaptor the cognitive load one feels so much like one that would clearly conclude "we should stop doing this, it measurably leaves us with less brainpower to make good decisions", and everyone would go "yeah", and then go right back to doing it
@LionsPhil @NanoRaptor possibly due to AN ENTIRELY AVOIDABLE MISUNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WAS AGREED AND THE DEEPLY UNSATISFACTORY OUTCOME
@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez I just felt it worth noting that an acronym for “Cognitive Load Implications Of Acronyms Rerferring To Other Acronyms” is CLIO ARTOA.
@NanoRaptor Gotta wonder if these notes were intended as passive aggressive stabs at the establishment. I will however vouch for the clipboard paper, and add safety vests, or lab coats for the win.

@ottominati @NanoRaptor

You can steal just about anything from the side of the road if you show up with a white pickup truck and a safety vest. Ever wanted a solar powered road sign? It can be yours.

@NanoRaptor @JuliaRez

Love these, next time I don’t install something correctly, I’ll just be helping out a NASA study.
