i have no idea what i'm doing and the more i figure things out the more i’m going to say that

So, the kakistocracy has decided the best way to deal with the #IranWar is to add more corn juice to our gasoline. And that's a problem.

Most of the gas labeled 88 at American pumps is #E10, 10% ethanol. And ethanol does indeed help make gas cheaper. But it is 33% less efficient, and in hot months dramatically increases smog.

Ethanol is also a hygroscopic solvent. Unless a vehicle is labeled "flex fuel", running 15% ethanol for more than a tank or two may cause damage to seals, rubber bits, and even aluminum. If your engine was manufactured before 2001, E15 can melt your valves. Literally.

It makes the car run less efficiently, produces significantly more #pollution, and can damage many existing vehicles on the market.

Believe it or not, and I'm having trouble, two #GOP Senators said it best when they said: Expansion of #E15: A gift to the #ethanol lobby and a consumer betrayal:

It is interesting and a bit strange that there is a very deep mathematical connection between how a stringed instrument works, how a radio antenna works, and how an LED works.

1990 "Arctic Ocean, Nord Kapp II" by photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto. Via Carnegie Museum of Art. A bleak image, but it reminds me of a meal--little bag of Doritos & whiskey--I ate in Nome once while sitting on the seawall and staring into the infinity of the sea. #arctic
We report: high and far out in the sky, maybe at its furthest edge (at least, our concept of such edge), the clouds spall in turbulent currents. There are these eyebrow clouds again. Now that we have learned of their existence, we keep noticing them above hills and valleys.

Microsoft history seeking.

I read a book that was about #microsoft in the 1980’s. It was designed with #code script and told stories about staffers who never left the office, and cheese sandwiches being pushed under doors. This was pre “world in an office” but likely lead to it - having play rooms, doctors, dentists, salons, etc, as a small stay-at-work village.

I can’t remember the name of it so can’t even attempt to find it. If you recall this book please do send info. It was written from the perspective of staffers. Has it been wiped clear of history?

“Sure, I’m a creature—and I can accept that … but lately it seems I’ve been turning into a miserable creature.”

Did you ever idly wonder why there aren't already a zillion vendors of compatible hardware modules for Framework laptops? Did just nobody bother?

TIL the reason is that Framework made sure their design patents didn't let anyone else make modules https://patents.google.com/patent/US20230015249A1/en?q=(Framework)&inventor=Nirav+Patel&oq=inventor:(Nirav+Patel)+Framework

This post is awesome, and I predict aftermarket shops offering to remove car surveillance to spring up in the next few years.

It shouldn't be necessary, but it is.

Removing the Modem and GPS from my 2024 RAV4 Hybrid

Modern cars are computers on wheels that send home nonstop telemetry about you. In this post I remove my 2024 RAV4 Hybrid's modem and GPS to prevent that :)
