@rperezrosario @CStamp Mobile app the most, but I use the cli way more than the web interface. (I have... let's just say more than one account)
@rperezrosario I'm about 50/50 between the website on my desktop and Moshidon wherever.
@rperezrosario mobile PWA
@thermia @rperezrosario they have a PWA? I might have to start using that. I'd rather have PWAs than a million electron apps all running separate browser instances
@justenoughducks @rperezrosario not sure about upstream mastodon, but the glitch-soc fork of mastodon does, and sharkey, the main instance software it uses does as well ^^

@thermia @rperezrosario @justenoughducks

Just for all the folks who might be interested, a PWA is a Progressive Web App.

More here https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Progressive_web_apps/Guides/What_is_a_progressive_web_app

I had never heard about it. So there.

Disclaimer: there may well be better explanations. Please feel free to add.

What is a progressive web app? - Progressive web apps | MDN

A progressive web app (PWA) is an app that's built using web platform technologies, but that provides a user experience like that of a platform-specific app.

MDN Web Docs
@RolfBly @rperezrosario @justenoughducks ah yes! sorry

indeed PWA stands for "progressive web app", which basically allows one to "install" a web page and make it behave as any app installed on a device, icon on the home screen and all

as the article mentions, it also allows the site to interface with certain APIs exposed by the OS

all of this provides a more "native like" experience ^^
@justenoughducks @thermia @rperezrosario Android app is electron? I've been using Tusky which is a native app.
@mihamarkic @thermia @rperezrosario sorry for the confusion, no it is a java app. I was just making commentary on how many apps are electron apps nowadays (their desktop app is electron though)
@rperezrosario I mainly use the Mastodon for Android app. Seems to work well enough for me.
@rperezrosario I only use the web app on any of my devices and wouldn't know why I'd need an extra app.
@rperezrosario The app on my phone, and phanpy.social on the web.
@talexb I find phanpy to be better than the phone app, so I just use phanpy on both my phone and my laptop.
@rperezrosario phanpy on the web mostly, but Tusker on iOS/iPadOS as well
@rperezrosario i use tusky on mobile and 90% of my feed is mastodon users. But im technically on GoToSocial for interaction.

And ill admit im on piefed/lemmy more than mastodon/gotosocial. But they all kinda interact with each other?

I guess we all benefit no matter what we use!
@rperezrosario mobile web browser.
@rperezrosario website in my browser
@rperezrosario wait are we talking like installing the webUI as an app? Or more like #phanpy vs the default UI?
@rperezrosario next time, if your system allows, you might want to consider making this multiple choice. In my case I don't really know, as I use two methods pretty much the same amount.
@jorgecandeias Received, thank you for letting me know. I will take it in consideration on future polls.

@rperezrosario I technically use all of those. The thing I use most often for Mastodon proper is Phanpy. I specifically don't use the official Mastodon mobile app.

For accessing my Sharkey accounts, I'm currently using their official website interface even on mobile.

(I wouldn't begin to suggest anyone use my setup. I am a weird little critter and I'm not interested in trying to be normal.  )

@rperezrosario No app, just a web browser. I canʼt understand apps. They are web browsers limited to one site, whereas a regular web browser lets you see many sites.

@rperezrosario

Browser interface on desktop and mobile.

No apps. It's not one of your selections

@mastodonmigration @rperezrosario Same here but thought "official web app" is the match here. I use the web application on desktop and mobile.

@FrVaBe @rperezrosario

Wasn't actually sure what he meant either, but wanted to make the distinction.

Huge fan of the Mastodon browser interface on any browser anywhere. Find apps very frustrating.

@rperezrosario web browser on both mobile and desktop.
@rperezrosario a bookmark that I embedded on my homescreen. Every website is an app now!
@rperezrosario unofficial web app, phanpy specifically. i also use it on mobile as a pwa. i don't think i'd ever use anything else.
@rperezrosario I picked mobile app but it's mostly Phanpy in mobile Firefox
@rperezrosario Firefox (which isn't an app imho)
@sgtpepere @rperezrosario browser on android and browser on pc. Apps for one site should die.

@mcSlibinas @sgtpepere @rperezrosario
Apps on mobile allow you to set several accounts.
With a long press on (almost any) action button (reply, add bookmark, boost, follow ...) show a menu selector to do the action with one of another account.
That is useful. Should works with Moshidon, Tusky, Husky, Fedilab (may be with Mastodon too but I don't use it, I don't remember why)

And, apps on mobile use less RAM than web browsers.

@lautreg @sgtpepere @rperezrosario can you open any content in other tab to check them later? Bookmark any web page? Do search by image? Use your beloved translator? Open few web pages to make post?
Less RAM usage is not an argument. I have plenty RAM even after fennec opened all things need to be opened.
@mcSlibinas @sgtpepere @rperezrosario
Sur, I mix clients, and use web browsers client to easily check what I placed on Bookmarks (you know, the button to mark message you will never watch again 😁)
Sometimes, I have smartphone in one hand and computer on other too.
I'm happy to have choice to use what tools I want.
@lautreg @sgtpepere @rperezrosario ok, so i use it on 1 browser. On all forums, sites, all the places i live in virtual communities. It's pretty simple to me. Can't be simplier.
Coho pwa at the moment 👍
@rperezrosario
@apps since the beginning and I've had no reason to look elsewhere.
@rperezrosario Wait, there's CLI Mastodon apps?
@rperezrosario both mobile and web, depending what screen is in front of me
Manci, a tvOS Mastodon app I wrote.
@rperezrosario Web app and Mobile app. So use both.
@rperezrosario Browser, particularly Waterfox.

@rperezrosario Mobile browser, no app. After enough scrolling the browser resets due to lack of memory. Wonderful mechanism to get me to put it down and move on.

Also apps don’t sync with the keyword filters you’ve put in on the site.

@rperezrosario official android app and website on my laptop

@rperezrosario webapp on the mobile browser.

unfortunately, the official app does not work when having no browser in the sandbox installed

@rperezrosario emacs heresy (mastodon.el)
