Yo, wanna move away from gmail as the anchor for my online identities that I can't selfhost (e.g. email for Domain registrar) - anyone got any recommendations for european providers worth checking out?

Ok, recommendations so far: Mailbox, Proton, Tuta, Posteo.

Excluding Proton for "on my personal shitlist" reasons.

Will ignore Tuta free tier as I don't want to be dependent on a fundamentally unsustainable business model.

Don't need bells & whistles so always going with the lowest paid tier. This unfortunately kicks out Tuta as they are 3x as expensive.

Posteo is kinda ... eh for me as it requires pre-payment, limited to 12mo - I know myself, at some point I will forget. So... Mailbox I guess?

Oh, neat, they don't even filter out my own mailserver!
I mean... ok, sure, Linux users WILL figure it out but...
Ok, lack of Phishing-resistant MFA is a problem... (TOTP only)
Ok, looks like Posteo also doesn't support U2F/WebAuthn. Tuta does though! Might need to reconsider...
@nyanbinary I will eventually get and then regret getting a "Webauthn4Life" tattoo. Thanks for doing the research!
@SporkSan ...I have been thinking about which tattoos to get and you are giving me stupid ideas
@nyanbinary fido2 adjacent is on the list for a future tattoo, I need to get a #battletech one first. They really are addictive.

@nyanbinary I moved/moving to Tuta. So far I reeeeallly like it. Adding custom domains and address was easier than Google Workspace. The same process will validate your MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MTA-STS.

They donโ€™t support ruf due to privacy, which is fine. I only care about rua since I roll on strict reject.

@badsamurai sidenote, it is still wild to me that gmail has a dmarc policy of none DESPITE their own workspace recommendation being switching to at least partial quarantine soon after starting the p=none trial.
@nyanbinary Google has never been in the business of stopping crime.
@nyanbinary I'm in process of shifting to Proton mail.
@nyanbinary Run Stalwart yourself. Worked quite well for me for almost a year now. But I still keep Gmail around for job searches and stuff, when I canโ€™t afford a mail to bounce. But Iโ€™m forwarding from Gmail to my own, so that way I can just purge my Gmail regularly and still have a copy on my own server. But gonna ditch Gmail fully at some point. Just not there yet.
@odd as mentioned: this is for the stuff I can't self-host (or at least run on a VPS), THAT side I already got covered. But using an email address on my own domain+mail server to manage those introduces a circular dependency/makes full recovery impossible in the cases of certain failures.
@odd practically all my email runs over my own mailserver already, this is just about the stuff required to run that mailserver.
@nyanbinary Ah, sorry then. Guess I read too fast.
@nyanbinary tutamail is the most frequently mentioned in my local feed...
