Infosec/privacy geek. Here to learn and boost. Professionally I deal mostly with the "softer" aspects of infosec: ISMS, infosec risk management, GDPR and security culture. First got into privacy back in the nineties. MSc in infosec and BEng in graphic production and usability.

A.I. musicians are COOKED. I just recorded an ENTIRE SONG using nothing but my instruments and a few microphones. This would have cost upwards of hundreds of dollars in expensive A.I. subscription fees but for me it was completely FREE. Don't get left behind. This is the future!

Here's the thing about Proton Mail:

With Proton Mail, the content of your email is fully end-to-end encrypted and inaccessible to service providers IF (and only if) you are communicating with another Proton Mail account, or you have set up a PGP key exchange otherwise.

The metadata of your email, however, isn't end-to-end encrypted. It is accessible in plain text to Proton. This includes:

  • Your payment information
  • The subject line of your emails
  • Your IP address(es), which can reveal your location
  • The email addresses you have communicated with
  • The time you have sent and received emails

If Proton is legally forced to provide this information to law enforcement, they will. They have to.

If your threat model makes it that it's dangerous for you when this metadata is shared, you need to use another, more private, method of communication.

The most unhinged thing about modern life is that we've normalised paying $200 a month for the gym and $300 a month for wellness "supplements" but if someone charges $5 for a newsletter they wrote with their actual brain people act like they've been mugged at knifepoint
I also have to patch bookwyrm, but I need to find a time when I can spend about 10 uninterrupted hours to debug all the stuff that they changed and is now broken after upgrading

AI, in the way it's used now, is automation but without control, without predictable outcomes, and without transparency.

We can have automation with control, predictable outcomes, and transparency by the way. We've been doing it for decades before. What if we put money in that instead?

the same people demanding you get back to the office to better collaborate in person as only humans can are the same people desperate to replace everyone with some code that runs on a server in ohio

The #AgeVerification Trap: Verifying user’s ages undermines everyone’s #DataProtection

”#AgeRestriction laws are not just about kids and screens. They are reshaping how #identity, #privacy, and #access work on the Internet for everyone.

The age-verification trap is not a glitch. It is what you get when regulators treat age enforcement as mandatory and privacy as optional.”

Is Age Verification a Trap?

Platforms are caught in a dilemma: enforce age restrictions or protect user privacy. How are they navigating this tricky terrain?

❓Have you noticed that digital products and services are getting worse? So have we!

➡️We have published a report about enshittification, on how and why digital products and services keep getting worse - and how we can turn the trend (hint: open tech, enforcement, public policy++)

Obviously @pluralistic is a big inspiration and help in this work.

Today is the day, the EU decides on Chat Control 1.0. Will they let the Trojan Horse through the gate and let Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn etc continue to scan all your messages?

We at Tuta say NO.

❌ No scanning
❌ No mass surveillance
❌ No age verification

Instead we fight for:

✅ Encryption
✅ Privacy
✅ Open Source

And so should the EU. Stop #ChatControl now! 🥊
