@ShadowJonathan I know someone like this
They’ll fix most common things
@ShadowJonathan /me looks up from a volunteer code review I'm able to do because I'm on medial leave
Yeah, this
There's a very good reason why Republicans attack the non-conformists, be they the unmarried woman, LGBTQ, non-Christian, POC, or immigrants...
... to build a whites-only ethnostate that serves solely the greed of billionaires, they need to cull the different & encourage eugenics movements.

My favorite job ever: driving for Jefferson Lines - scheduled motorcoach service.
Getting mostly poor people where they needed to go. Actually helping people.
What job was I doing when we went almost bankrupt? Yup. Same job.
@cyplo @rachel @ShadowJonathan @occurrent There's a possible 'open printer' coming along, but it's uncertain when.
In the meantime get a laser printer that has PCL or Postscript built into it. Preferably one that explicitly lists open source support on their website.
Yes, it will take up a bit more space than an inkjet. Yes it will cost a bit more too. However it will work.
The problem is people want a) cheap and b) inkjets, and for inkjets it's necessary to be very careful what you choose, and to maintain it properly.
@cyplo
Ive been tempted to be one of those. I fiddle with 3D printers, but it fascinates me how many different machines out there are just
2+ axes
1+ thingy moving around and doing something
Like, give me a nonproprietary print head that I can put on one on these, the only real difference between a vinyl cutter and an inkjet printer is what it's moving around!
Or like, put some sort of print/sprayhead on a router and make Wikihouse blocks that are preprinted with labels and instructions!
Print and cut patterns on fabric for clothing. Only reason you can't change the width of a printer easily is because they have to be mass manufactured. Otherwise, swap two rods, some cables, change a setting.....maaaybe a little more memory idk.
Walking out of the bathroom at a house party and going up to the host to say "you know how the handle on your toilet jiggled a bit and needed to be held in just the right way to flush? It's fixed now." is one of my favorite things.
@ShadowJonathan I 100% would go door to door updating OpenStreetMap fulltime if I could afford to, socioeconomically.
This obsession spawned out of maps not updating fast enough in Portland 20 years ago to reliably run a courier service and kinda getting screwed by that, ultimately leading me to learn about and start contributing to OpenStreetMap just to have accurate navigation in a city that was changing the street grid daily.
Will write fun, dinky shell scripts and sci-fi fanfic for food (and catfood... and snacks... and cat treats... and occasionally a little bit of RAM and SSDs...)
David Graeber wrote a book about this, called "Bullshit Jobs"
@ShadowJonathan I love Post 10!

I would voluntarily organize, sort, alphabetize anything and everything.
Feeling seen here.
Turning off TV's lazy-ass 'fitness' freaks leave blathering from idle machines at the gym.
Snowshoeing popular dog walks through the local park after a fresh sky drop.
Doing computer shit for pals who hate them.
Obsessive weirdos with extremely niche special interests MUST BE SPONSORED.
Who ELSE is going to do that work, if not the person who was born to do it?
There are enough people, and enough resources. There is no excuse not to do this.
