Amazon firing 16000 soon (affecting AWS and other positions). Almost all of these positions are Amazon India office https://finance.yahoo.com/news/amazon-fires-30-000-ai-141502845.html

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy later told the reduction was "not really ‌financially or AI-driven." Rather, he said, "it’s culture".

ASML Statement on Strengthening Focus on Engineering and Innovation

ASML

if it is not a financial issue, then why fire so many people? LOL.

They changed their tone recently. Instead of telling the press AI has resulted in job loss, now they are saying those people were not "culturally" fit. They are doing this because AI is getting bad and negative press, and it bothers them when social media tags their CEOs and company handles, or reputed media shows how big tech is replacing tech workers with AI. So they changed the narration to keep stock UP! That is what I think

@nixCraft layoffs are always good for stock prices, because investors don't care about the human cost, they care about their own wallet.

The excuses are just to keep the temperature down, because if the temp rises too much, they'll get luigi'd.

@nixCraft I wonder if said workers were actually the ones providing/guiding the "AI"
@nixCraft Ah capitalistfascist CEO's rather $$ than workers quality of life - are people catching on yet?
@nixCraft could be because the trump regime does not like vrown people or people that hire brown people.
As suspected, the FT has now released detailed reporting. Despite the CEO claiming this is not related to AI or financial decisions citing 'cultural fit' instead the FT reports that Amazon is set to axe another 16,000 corporate jobs amid higher spending on AI. https://archive.ph/XO9Qo#selection-1581.81-1581.107 Oh, they are investing $10bn in OpenAI and $118bn in AWS data centre expansion and AI capex etc. At least be honest if you are firing people to fund your AI and investments in other AI companies. We are not fools

@nixCraft

It seems to me that Amazon has been developing severe "Cultural Fit" problems, in the sense of being a horrible place for humans to work, and a bad place for humans to be customers. And bad for those providing them products to sell, like all monopoly-like companies. Like really, most of us humans would just be better off abandoning the place and going somewhere else. Local businesses are quite deserving of such real human input.

@nixCraft Sounds "fun" to work there.

@nixCraft Saying the quiet part aloud.

Companies are expected to fire people to please markets, even when they are doing fine.

Insanity.

@daniel_gonzalez there won't be any market left if everyone is jobless. lol. but, who would tell them?
@nixCraft layoffs are not going to do great things for your culture.

@nixCraft

What cultural reasons led him to make this decision? Doesn't he worry about political correctness?

@nixCraft openly stating that a shitty action is part of one's culture is a hallmark of an asshole society.
