I am doing my best to respond to this without a string of expletives. But let's be very clear: what just happened in Minnesota was cold blooded murder of a civilian by out of control federal agents, aided and abetted by the entire Trump administration and their fascist enablers.
Anything you hear from Kristi Noem other than shame and contrition will be a fucking lie. She made this happen by lying to defend Jonathan Ross after he murdered Renee Good and reinforcing a culture of hatred and uncontrolled violence by undertrained and over-armed punks.
Donald Trump is complicit of course. But so is every single Republican in the House and Senate who voted for a massive increase in ICE funding in their Big Ugly Bill and refused to do any oversight. Trump is doing what he can get away with and you can smell their cowardice from a mile away.
Pam Bondi is complicit for running a Department of Justice that refuses to apply the rule of law equally to all, along with Kash "I don't read" Patel at the FBI. By taking Renee Goods investigation from the MN PD they sent a message that if you shoot civilians we'll protect you.
As I write this, I see the jackboots are already suggesting that the victim had a gun. Srsly? He was pinned to the ground. And you know who else had a gun? George Zimmerman. Don't tell me you can shoot a kid with a bag of skittles but you should trust a fat dude with an ICE badge and a face mask.
Finally, if you think they wouldn't shoot you in a heartbeat because - I dunno, you're a white dude, or you voted for this - you are deluding yourself. They don't give a damn about any American. They know that the walls are closing in and are petrified about the accountability that will come.
The vast majority of Americans are good people who don't tolerate this. The mass protests in MN yesterday, the collapsing poll numbers, the decency scares them. They are shooting their way out and don't care who they hit.
@SeanCasten it's worse there today, now
@drdrowland @SeanCasten That Alex Pretti "had a gun" line says more about how full of shit the American right is than 100 episodes of Democracy Now!

(And whether or not he /actually/ had one is immaterial to the core fact they're full of shit.)

For *decades*, the American right has claimed that guns are necessary to protect the constitution.

For *decades*, the American right has claimed that guns are necessary to resist tyrannical or authoritarian actions by government.

For *decades*, the American right has said the right to free speech is paramount.

And over *decades*, the American right has said the right to free speech includes the right to protest. That includes after Charlottesville, January 6, and the pandemic-era anti-mask demonstrations.

This isn't some ideological side point.

The NRA, countless Fox News talking heads, countless right-wing public figures, countless Republican politicians and candidates have droned about this.

For decades.

Well okay. Extrajudicial killings of US citizens, unreasonable search and seizure, detention of US citizens without due process of law.

Seems like a pretty bloody blatant violation of the core principles of the US Constitution and US Bill of Rights to me.

The *exact circumstances* the US right has said *for decades* necessitate the right to bear arms.

And after witnessing unconstitutional actions that violate the Bill of Rights, Alex exercised his right to free speech by attending a protest.

The *exact circumstances* the US right has said *for decades* necessitates the right to free speech.

Against this background, the American right now claims that Alex exercising his right to free speech and (possibly) his right to bear arms in resistance of unconstitutional acts justifies extrajudicial murder by government agents.

And in using that argument, the American right has shown just how totally full of shit they are.

Not just Trump.

Not just ICE.

Every bloody American right winger who's talked about guns and free speech over the past few decades.

Because that one line shows how full of shit they've been the whole time.

Their first principles were never guns or free speech.

Their real first principles were violence, white supremacy, and capitalist greed.

Oh, and one more thing.

It's not just the likes of the NRA and the Proud Boys and the gun nuts in the GOP who are conspicuously quiet.

It's also all the southerners who spent decades talking about states rights.

Because their motivation was never about protecting states (like Minnesota) from authoritarian actions by the federal government.

It was always about allowing states to segregate schools.

So the next time you hear some American right winger mention guns or free speech, just ask them "what about Alex Pretti?"

And the next time you hear some American right winger mention states rights, just ask them "what about ICE agents in Minnesota?"
@aj @drdrowland @SeanCasten so ice was "trying to take their gun"?
@soviut actually ice fully DID take the gun before executing him. He never had it in his hands at all, they took it straight from the holster in the moments right before they killed him. In at least one vid, one of the agents can be seen taking it from the holster and is walking away with it visible in his hand at the moment another shot him. @aj @drdrowland @SeanCasten
@Irenetherogue @aj @drdrowland @SeanCasten yeah. I'm sarcastically throwing the right's "they're coming to take our guns" rhetoric back at them.

@Irenetherogue

Like Southpark lampooned them with the hunting episode: "they're coming right at us!"

@soviut ah gotcha, my apologies for missing the joke! Also, lol good one!

@aj @drdrowland @SeanCasten

I am not surprised that it is an Australian @aj who so eloquently points out the absolute hipocricry of those who have defended the execution of an already disarmed and restrained civilian for having the temerity of filming and attempting to defend another civilian from armed thugs, and for exercising their right to carry a weapon.

A weapon that, the right to carry, is so often claimed to be needed to defend against that very thing that is happening under their watch right now.

@drdrowland @SeanCasten

@BernardSheppard @aj @SeanCasten

Yeah the us would do well to take a page from Australia's book when it comes to guns. It worked there and it will work here

What they deserve was outlawed in the middle ages. But make no mistake: accountability will come as long as our democracy survives because nothing they are doing can stand a free and fair election. Keep protesting. Keep filming. Stay patriotic. We've still got the numbers.

@SeanCasten Legalities are a bureaucratic nicety, if the Law doesn't reflect what is RIGHT to do.

If we stick to their claimed rules, while they don't we are doomed. We stick to OUR rules. Do what is decent of others, do unto evil ones exactly what they deserve.

A man was tackled, a magazine was emptied into him, unnecessarily. A woman was murdered for driving away. Families are torn apart.

There is NOTHING that is ugly or harsh enough done to MAGAt gestapo that is too much.

@SeanCasten I appreciate that you show some emotion and humanity in you posts, rather than just putting out a dry, official statement over each terrible thing happening in the country.

@SeanCasten

Republicans made Minnesota an open carry state, simply being armed is no pretext.

@SeanCasten You’re a good man doing an impossible job.
@SeanCasten also corrupt SCOTUS who essentially gave Trump permission to do whatever.
@SeanCasten

So are the seven collaborator Democrats that recently voted to continue funding. They need to be put up against the same wall.

@SeanCasten

Everyone must know that working for or with ICE = prosection in the US equivalent to the Nuremberg Trials.

And everyone who votes to fund this obvious terror is complicit and must be locked up for the rest of their rotten lives, too.

. @SeanCasten Training Is Not Even Part Of Any Serious And Sufficient Response To This, PLEASE STOP Implying It Could Be
@SeanCasten Hey, that's not fair! If she were to express shame or contrition that would TOTALLY be a lie too!

@SeanCasten yes. One shot for who knows what reason, then everyone jumps in to get their fill.

There is more of us than there is of them

@ATLeagle @SeanCasten
Don't forget the Dem collaborators...
Fucking collaborators. The lot of them.

These Democrats voted for the DHS funding bill despite ICE furor

Several House Democrats joined with nearly all Republicans to approve a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Thursday, as anger grows over the Trump administration’s immigratio…

@SeanCasten

Saw the video. Six guys on one, then gunshots. Every one of the agents walked away upright. Awfully hard to justify that as self defense.

@lemgandi @SeanCasten most of the shooting was done when he was already down. They killed him, and then they all unloaded.

The US government has declared war on its citizenry. That's where we are now. They're going to kill people until they're given the excuse to REALLY start killing people.

@SeanCasten aided and abetted? My dude. They’re the one giving the orders.

@SeanCasten I want to hear about subpoenas. Of personnel records. Every one of these agents known and listed for testimony the moment Dems gain control.

I want to know Dems will be ready to act immediately. And I want those agents to know they will be held accountable the instant their protectors are gone.

@solitha @SeanCasten
Dems are a big part of why this is happening. WTF did they do for 4 years under Biden. They could have stopped this by starting prosecutions on J7. Biden made a deal with maga

@CaymanPilot Well, let's start with the fact that Biden wasn't in office for another two weeks.

Let's go on with the fact that prosecutions began immediately on multiple levels. Just because we weren't aware of what was going on didn't mean nothing was.

And lastly, I'll point out that Trump could have campaigned and even maybe won from prison. Nothing in the law precludes it.

@CaymanPilot I'll add that the GOP has been working on this for quite literally decades.

One figurehead stopped would not have prevented what's happening. Had he dropped dead on J6 it would not have prevented what's happening.

Trump is a prominent symptom of the disease, but only a symptom.

@solitha @CaymanPilot
Sure...
But then why did they vote for the ICE Bill...TWO fucking DAYS AGO?

@solitha
Well said. Yeah I was a bit off with my J7 reference and yep you're right Project 2025 didn't appear out of nowhere.

@SeanCasten Yup. Said as it is. This should really create a mandate on the US public to force eviction of the deeply deeply corrupt Trump. And a clean out of the whole system.

Political systems are, strange to realise, public systems intended to serve all. Yet they get commandeered by vested interests in every country to one degree or other. In the US, the degree is deep into Fascist territory.

@SeanCasten I have no fucking clue why the US has the second amendment, and the death penalty, and still shit like this is going down.

@SeanCasten Please spare us the crocodile tears...

Dems just voted to increase funding to ICE, just as they have for the past 20+ years. Dem mayors and governors are having their police arrest protesters. Meanwhile you took $300,000 from AIPAC and continue to support the genocide in Gaza.

WHO DO YOU EVEN WORK FOR???

@SeanCasten ...AGAIN.

There will be more.

@SeanCasten

#TranslatedFromTheRepublican

"GOP operatives are doing a deep dive on Mr. Pretti, as we speak.

Finding something, anything, to use as a pretext for fascist propaganda along the lines of 'He had it coming to him' and 'He deserved what happened'.

Billionaire-funded malign influence campaigns are nothing if not consistent.

Repetition, Repetition, Repetition like the KKK and Nazis."

@SeanCasten Fuck it! Use all the expletives you want.
@SeanCasten
When does impeachment begin?
@SeanCasten The 'Fascist Enablers' are the Republican Party. Say it.

@SeanCasten

Call it what it is: extra-judicial summary execution.

@SeanCasten not Federal agents. A Federal death squad.
