Hello Fediveres,

I am a 44-year-old software developer who is fed up with meaningless, purely profit-focused work, vibe AI slop, and a Big Brother antisocial networks, that snoops on data at every turn.

I'm looking for a new challenge, true to the motto: #MeaningfulPurposeFirst. Do you have any ideas? Can you help me #boost the word in this great Fediverse?
#FediHire

You are awesome! Thank you so much for all the boosts and the support. Some more details:

https://mastodon.social/@sobfly/115927569352403790

I am the team leader of a small international team of developers and live in Bavaria, Germany.

I mainly work with #dotnet C#, #Typescript, and React. Privately, I am currently looking into #Elixir. I am also helping my family become digitally confident #DIDit.

I am convinced that only an economy oriented toward the common good is truly sustainable. Your support gave me a nice boost to start looking into alternatives. I'll keep you updated!

@sobfly

> I am convinced that only an economy oriented toward the common good is truly sustainable.

This! We're definitely on the same page here.

And it's a constant battle against those who would steal it.
@sobfly mobilizon.org #mobilizon is written in #elixir right?
@abeorch
Is it, I don't know. I know, that Discord is managing a crazy amount of concurrent users using an #Elixir backend though. Pretty impressive.
@sobfly Would it help to add some specifics e.g. geographic area i.e. where to work (US, EU,...), type of software you've worked on, what you find especially purposeful, etc?

@rojun
Thanks for pointing that out, I have added some more details here:

@sobfly

Here are a few visions for a new web, that aim to de-enshittify the Internet, clean up AI slop, improve privacy, strengthen democracy, share wealth equitably, and improve life for all instead of just yourself and your boss ( mostly your boss ):

A new opportunity will not come find you. Don't wait around waiting to get hired. Those days are gone. Proactively join forces with good people you know.

@purrperl @sobfly ... or you could join in the #indieweb movement.

https://indieweb.org

IndieWeb

The IndieWeb is a people-focused alternative to the “corporate web”.

@president @khleedril @sobfly

I don't support indieweb's Amazon integration. The website is not very informative to me, as a web developer, and as a longtime blogger. I already knew how to own my domain, host my site, own my data, etc. My OpSec was compromised when I became a whistleblower, illegally terminated, evicted, hacked, legally harassed etc.

Fuck capitalism. Don't cling to it. Clinging to it causes even more suffering. Join in the killing of capitalism. Save Earth.

@purrperl @president @sobfly There is no Amazon integration that I know of, and if there is I would just not be having anything to do with that part. Microformats, webmentions and rel-mes are all I'm using at the moment, and they are nothing to do with Amazon.
@purrperl
I share your opinion on capitalism, however, there are steps in between we need to take first. We won't convince the majority with harsh words, we need to guide them.
@president @khleedril

@sobfly @president @khleedril

I came up with some ideas that challenged capitalist institutions in a big way. So I was physically persecuted.

"It suits the tyrants to keep the revolutionaries starving, too busy fending for day-to-day survival, to revolt." ~ Aristotle.

That's where I am coming from. Illegally terminated, evicted, persecuted by the police even as a homeless person. I finally escaped that situation, and am writing up a big exposé about the truths they tried to bury, with me.

@sobfly @president @khleedril

As promised, here the big exposé I am working on ( yes, it's a work-in-progress ).

Please let me know if you can access it alright, because I am seeing some unexpected errors on Gitlab pages.

Also, coming soon: The JS microframework I wrote to write this exposé.

Why are harshness and anger forbidden? Why is society so obsessed with pleasure, agreeability, biddability, compromising individual integrity for the sake of fitting in with the group?

There is a rebellion, long suppressed, a volcano, long dormant, a revolution, that's coming to head in these interesting times we live in.

Why Your Obsession With Good Vibes Only Is Just A Trauma Response With Better Marketing | Christian Ortiz ✊🏽 | 21 comments

Oye, mira. Decolonial social science reveals more than policy failure, it reveals how colonial systems taught us to suppress truth and call it healing. This piece examines the emotional demands of white supremacy: the pressure to “let go,” to be quiet, to forgive without justice. It’s about spiritual bypassing as a form of control, and the liberatory power of remembering what we were told to forget. Grief is not weakness. Rage is not a flaw. Forgetting is not freedom. Read the full piece. Sit with it. Share it if it calls you in. #OyeMira #DecolonialSocialScience #SpiritualBypassing #LiberationWork #StructuralHealing #MemoryAsResistance #OyeMira | 21 comments on LinkedIn

@khleedril
Thanks for this link, I will look into this. I am currently setting up a domain for my family and move them to our own cloud.
@purrperl

@purrperl @sobfly

That article is incompetent.

For example, AlohaCoin wallets: ``If there are W wallets, and N Alohacoins in existence, then each wallet's balance is capped at N/W.''

This means that *all* wallets will have exactly N/W coins, and there is no scope for financial transactions.

@khleedril
finally a cryptocoin that makes sense !! 😹
@purrperl @sobfly

@dlakelan @khleedril @sobfly

It's a WIP, an RFC. It's how things are done on the Internet, through drafts, ideas, and proposals from the community. The end state is for wealth to be so evenly distributed, that money is largely irrelevant. People work, produce, consume less, because everyone's a millionaire. Crime/wars are things of the past. In addition to the security of having one's material needs met, one has the security of knowing that everyone's needs are met, and nobody need rob them.

@dlakelan @khleedril @sobfly

You know that tech utopia, where technology brings you abundance and leisure?

- Where you don't say: "A robot took my job. Oh no! I feel useless. How will I find a job in this AI market?"

+ Where you say: "A robot took my job. Hooray! Now I can live in a cottage by the lake, and read books for a lifetime, because my needs are met. And so are my neighbor's. And money is for bean counters."

That vision is knocking at your door, in case you'd like to take delivery.

@dlakelan @khleedril @sobfly

Let's say that future starts to arrive, where wealth is spread more evenly, and the bottom of humanity is lifted from material poverty. Let's say the dividends of decades of feverish innovation and grinding in the trenches are paying off. What would you expect to see? One of the signs of those times would be people having leisure, working less, even not working at all, because they are provided for. Immediately the Puritan Work Ethic is offended! People do NOTHING?

@dlakelan @khleedril @sobfly

It would be a world of Volunteers. People do what they do, because they want to do it, for fun, for love, for service, for self-development. People show up, as farmers, pastry chefs, SysAdmins, coders, seamstresses, singers. Young ones show up to apprentice, and learn from the volunteer tradesmen.

The Maslow Hierarchy of Human needs is rebuilt, one layer at a time, leaving noone behind. Unlike the shaky pyramids robber pharoahs clambered on slave heads to climb.

@dlakelan @khleedril @sobfly

Yes, there is no scope for people to live in luxury, while ignoring the poverty and misery of other people. That means, no Gucci, Armani, Ferrari, Lamborghini, GulStream. That means you don't get to live large, and go dancing on the backs of the bruised.

Sounds crazy, right?!?

You are so much better, smarter, you hustled. What did THEY do? Why should you not ride a limousine and party in the back with pretty people and safely ignore the stinky homeless bums.
ikr?

Hey.. thanks for the shout out! There's a fantastic list of projects at https://delightful.coding.social/delightful_fediverse_apps/ you might want to check out. My own work - https://emissary.dev - is a tiny part of this list.

I'd probably start at the intersection of your skills and interests. You're sure to find projects that would love your help.

And, if that ends up being somewhere close to Go + HTML + weird new use cases, then let me know if you'd like to talk :)

@sobfly @dereisenhofer Good luck! I feel your pain. If you stumble upon a PM type role that looks meaningful, let me know? :)
@sobfly I'm literally in the same boat (44 as well :D). Not much to contribute but will eagerly follow what comes out if that. I've been looking at orgs that focus on (digital) accessibility, and if you want to branch out, 'service design' can be a meaningful avenue to explore.
@sobfly @SonofaGeorge FWIW, after creating the free @CyclingGuide mobile app we set up Cycling Guide Foundation as a permanent home for it. Initially a not-for-profit corporation, it’s now a registered charity here in Canada. We wanted to send a strong message about our intent that the app will always be free and that we aren’t going to sell users to data brokers.

@sobfly if you edit the post to add your rough location, sure. (This is necessary even for remote work due to legalities.)
@sobfly Start hacking on #Veilid - this is a core technology for good, not an application, service or site; giving people a mechanism for rejecting the profit-focused world that snoops. Just what you asked for!

@sobfly being 44 I just started working as a software developer in the public sector in a research project on reducing student drop off rates at a local university. 70% salary drop. Still worth it.

So, my suggestion: Scan university websites (and I don't even have a degree, but they recognize experience anyways, even in Germany)
