Only a few years after it opened I’m finally travelling on Crossrail. That’s what this republican has to call it 😀
It’s fine. Trains better than I’d have expected, except the weird gaps/steps. Ticketing doesn’t work properly outside London. Stations are build big scale and well. It’s a decent modern railway.

@jon

Frequency is quite disappointing, except in central London.

@jon The „you can tap in here, but not tap out at you destination“ is one of the most annoying things about the London transportation. Been there myself a couple of times and had to buy a second ticket whilst already on the train…

(Luckily not tapping out in London is quite inexpensive ~11£ as you only pay the daily cap, compared to other cities)

@jon But to be fair… I still prefer tapping to tickets and other payment systems. As a tourist, not having to worry about zones, fares if day tickets are cheaper then paying for individual trips, all of this is gone and creates much simpler and easier experience!
@jon You do realise that if you refuse to use the name Lizzy Line you should also refuse to use the Viccy Line (or at least find another name for it) 😆
@losttourist yes 😀
@jon @losttourist What do you call the light blue line (as opposed to the turquoise line), and, for that matter, the light grey line?

@moof @jon @losttourist The grey line was initially called Fleet Line.

Keeping Victoria Line kind of makes sense unless you also rename the railway station.

@moof @jon @losttourist Stanhope <> Stratford = Stanford, surely?

Gets even better if they extend it out to Stanford-le-Hope…

Shall we name Crossrail 2 after Maggie rather than Diana then? 😬😬😬

@losttourist @jon

The Jubilee line was supposed to be the Fleet line but was also squatted by royalty.

@lionelb @losttourist @jon It’ll always be Crossrail for me, and it’s still Fleet Line in my brain or Jubbly if I need to explain to others. None of this royal twaddle. I remember in late 1970s there was a sign at a Highbury & Islington platform that still showed Fleet Line long after that name had been usurped. A wry smile each morning.

@ag_tn21 @losttourist @jon

One day we will put all the names right 😎

@jon @losttourist the difference is that Victoria was long dead, as well as her empire, when the line was opened.

The Elizabeth line was named while she was still around. As were a bunch of other late Tory things IIRC.

@jon surely it should be a calmer journey. Don't be cross. Enjoy a calm purple train... (Are you using interrail on it? )
@quixoticgeek not today actually. Am on regular tickets today!
It's a fab addition to London's transport network.

@jon i like to call it the Lizard Line in honour of David Icke

if you say it quick enough you can get away with it in normal conversation

@jon found Xrail to be a non-event which is what all good transport should feel like. Roll on Tlink2 and Xrail2.
@jon Erm, what do you call the Victoria line?
@djm_black I’m only joking 😀
