Is it a good idea to host a major event like the FIFA World Cup in a country whose secret state police hunt down innocent people, lock them in cages, or execute them in the street?

@Strandjunker

I have cancelled a trip to New-York when Trump started his tarrifs none sense.

I am not planning to travel to the U.S. for the next few years.

@Strandjunker No. People could visit the games in Canada or Mexico if they should want to. But visiting games in the USA is dangerous and should be avoided.
@Strandjunker
I won't mourn the people who decide to attend that event and get into trouble...
@Strandjunker As long as you are the white color, you’ll be OK 😉

@alex_p_roe @Strandjunker And not visibly* queer or leftist.

*online, offline, to the algorithm, or whichever uncorrected databases feed it.

@hypostase @Strandjunker If you don’t stand out from the crowd, you’ll probably be Ok. The probability of being hassled is higher than before Trump became king but still relatively low especially if you look average 🙂 but speak to others.
@alex_p_roe you mean there is no risk of being extrajudicially executed at all?
@stk Not no risk but at a lower risk than not so white people, maybe, and it’s Trump we’re talking about so anything is possible!
@Strandjunker The new travel requirements are roughly equivalent to completing an SF 86 for a security clearance. How crazy about footie do you have to be to give up years of your social media, etc.?
@Strandjunker no one should be flying to the US. We need to cripple whatever is happening here. The only language that people speak here is money. Idk how else to put it
@Strandjunker No, but seems to be a pro when you apply for it. Check the last two world cups: 2018 in Russia and 2022 in Qatar
@Strandjunker Man sollte die USA aus allen internationalen Wettbewerben ausschließen.

@Strandjunker

No, no.it is not smart.

Can your country, now cowering before Trump, protect you? Protect them?

Are you going to let them send your soccer team to where they have opened the portal to hell?

#fifa #football #soccer #worldCup #no

@Strandjunker - and also, lest we forget, has a serious hate boner for anyone foreign & also-also, FIFA is on their knees to the fascist dictator & have already proved that they'll do anything to curry favor with him, including not standing up for the teams & almost certainly try to rig the results so the racists won't have to watch brown people beat white people at anything; US Nazis don't want their own Jesse Owens humiliation...
@Strandjunker that is exactly the type of country that FIFA Loves
@Strandjunker it's crazy because what do you mean your targeting and arresting the sport's biggest demographic?!?!
@Strandjunker well, they did that with the last FIFA World Cup, no?
@Strandjunker fifa has no problems running it in Saudi Arabia... so yeah!
@Strandjunker (George Clooney’s voice) You’re talking about… Qatar, right?
@Strandjunker "today I feel like an ICE protester" - piece (of the cash bribes pie) prize giver.
@Strandjunker pretty sure that's FIFA's ideal environment.

@Strandjunker

No, it is not, but let's look at the record here:
1934 Italy (Mussolini)
2018 Russia (Putin)
2022 Qatar
2026 USA (Trump)
2034 Saudi Arabia

So that's 5 out of 25 World Cups hosted in countries with dubious human right's records, including how they treat immigrants and visitors.

Yeah, I can't get too worked up about which country's bid for sports-washing FIFA goes with. I love the sport, but I'm so over FIFA and all the politics around hosting the World Cup that I can't see myself traveling to any World Cup anywhere.

(Full disclosure, I did go to one Women's World Cup match in 2003 when the USA Women were playing Canada for 3rd place, and it was amazing to see Mia Hamm playing and all the girls in the stands who were so inspired by her. Literally every time she touched the ball, a chorus of young girls near us would should "MIA MIA MIA MIA" until a few MIAs after the ball left her foot. She served up a corner kick that was headed in for USA's 2nd goal, which was the game winner, and I thought several people around me might have heart attacks. And I'm honestly not sure if I would have stayed home had I known then what I know now about FIFA.)

@Strandjunker The United States is hosting portions of the World Baseball Classic tournament in March. Teams from Venezuela, Colombia and Cuba are all competing. ⚾️#WorldBaseballClassic
@Strandjunker previous countries were Russia and Qatar - so same level of democracy as usual. For FIFA this is SNAFU - corruption level infinite
@Strandjunker Well #fifa4genocide don't care. They are here for the money. #emptythestadiums and maybe they will think about.
@Strandjunker And while we’re at it, why watch at all? It’s bread and games for the glory of rich assholes.
@Strandjunker if the owner/president of the country is the owner of a FIFA peace prize - YES OF COURSE !! 🙃

@Strandjunker

It's up to the players! I'm heartbroken for them. this event is a once in 4 yr opportunity to highlight their goods, skills, love of the beautiful game. Piggy is the plague that ruins the party.
As a lover of footie, I am crushed to say I am boycotting. But that is my personal choice. I'm done with the corruption of FIFA and of Donald's malignant regime!

@Strandjunker
countries should be bailing out now.
@Strandjunker It's like the FIFA peace prize doesn't even mean anything anymore!
@Strandjunker tbh if they actually go through with it I'm expecting the lowest turnout ever.
@Strandjunker the Olympics is set for Los Angeles, also. I would question the judgment of anyone who attends either
@Strandjunker I mean there's already precedent...
@Strandjunker... and haven't a clue how corrupt FIFA are?
@Strandjunker Why not? Hitler opened the Olympic Games in Berlin, and, oh. Wait.
@Strandjunker
Maybe not the best idea. And I'd love it if they moved it.
@Strandjunker Shades of Berlin 1936 Olympics.
@Strandjunker Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup was somewhat of a precursor.

@individual8 @Strandjunker That was it for me. Didn't watch it then, and haven't watched any world cup games since.

FIFA MAFIA.

#boycottWorldCup

@Strandjunker
He has to pick up his FIFA Peace Prize.
@Strandjunker Is it a good idea to *attend* such an event? I'd say no at this point.
@Strandjunker
For FIFA it's standard practice.
@Strandjunker It's been done before. I wish I was kidding.
@Strandjunker while also threatening to annex and bomb the 2 other co-hosts besides other participating countries. It's insane really but according to FIFA the ruler of that country deserved a peace award.
@Strandjunker @drsJekyll Well, they already did Qatar. This is just a slide downgrade.
@Strandjunker I am waiting for the first TV stations to cancel contracts. Everything else will not have a big impact on that mafia, I assume. Or, am I wrong?
@Strandjunker @alice They’d absolutely vanish at least some non-white players, too. “We’re sorry, the team from Mexico can’t compete, because nobody can find them after ICE came to their hotel.”
@Strandjunker Last time, it was in Qatar, and everybody seemed to be ok with this. And the time before, it was in Russia. 🤷‍♀️
@Strandjunker Yes. Nobody goes there anyway, everybody watches the game at home on their TVs.
@Strandjunker imagine if they do that to the professional footballers and personal of other countries
@Strandjunker
Berlin '36 flashback incoming.

@Strandjunker

Fifa is choosing countries exactly because of those attributes.
