I tell people the burn scars up my forearms are from when I heroically put out a kitchen fire. The real reason I got them was from when I was a student; I was low on cooking oil and thought I could top up the hot oil in the chip pan with water. Stupid idiot.
@fesshole they should bring back PIFs

@FiXato @fesshole growing up in the UK in the 70s/80s, watching TV, in between the adverts for cigarettes and hard liquor, they’d show Public Information Films.

Often dark and scary, but we sure grew up knowing how to put out a chip pan fire (never pour water on it!) and not to fly kites near electricity pylons etc.

Search for “uk pif” on YouTube, there were loads of them!

@finitebaffle @FiXato @fesshole Charlie says, don’t top up the oil when lit, you blithering idiot!

@finitebaffle @FiXato @fesshole In America we had those too, they were called Public Service Announcements (PSAs)

This is a famous one from when I was a kid.

@finitebaffle @FiXato @fesshole Remember, poison sockets contain poison. Turn off your poison sockets before you leave!
@fesshole to be fair, it sounds like there almost was a kitchen fire...
@fesshole your students were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think about if they should!
@fesshole holy fucks that's a bad one. Understand the need to not appear an idiot.
