🇺🇸🇻🇪🇦🇿🇦🇲 I guess we now know that military operations are acceptable and nobody really cares, as long as they’re quick (the #US in #Venezuela, #Azerbaijan in #Nagorno-Karabakh...).

🇺🇦 Seems #Russia would have just had to take #Ukraine faster...

🇹🇼 Meanwhile, the #Chinese military is probably holding a #Taiwan planning party right now - bet.

While you're right about #Trump making invasions "acceptable," #China 🇨🇳 has been testing its ability (i.e., "planning") to take #Taiwan 🇳🇫 for decades, and it hasn't come close to succeeding, so I'm not so sure if #Venezuela 🇻🇪 changes anything in that regard. 🤔
@TimMaddog Yes, certainly! I agree that it doesn't make a purely military difference, however, it sets a bad precedent for quick military actions because it didn't attract enough scrutiny 😔
@madeindex
"Sets a bad precedent" is absolutely right. 👏🏽

@TimMaddog @madeindex

It further destabilizes an already volatile situation. So far since WWII conflicts have been kept confined to at most a region within a continent. That could change.

@TimMaddog Also, I'm not sure the military operational level is what has held China back so far. Political and economical factors might be the bigger constraints.
@madeindex
Nothing has ever "held #China 🇨🇳 back" but their own inability. #Russia 🇷🇺 made weak-ass excuses to invade #Ukraine 🇺🇦 three years ago, but #Taiwan 🇳🇫 remains untouched.
@TimMaddog @madeindex So, it's just a matter of how realistic is China about its own capabilities. Unfortunately it's enough if they THINK they can achieve a quick victory (as Putin did) to start a war.
@TimMaddog @madeindex (personally I think it would be a bloodbath for the PROC, similar to russia's invasion. But PROC leaders might come to different conclusions and Taiwan/RoC can't rely on US support any longer)
@madeindex Planning party? They just finished a full-blown military exercise to block Taiwan: https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/china-army-taiwan-drills-us-japan-9.7028988
Chinese army stages drills around Taiwan to warn 'external forces' after U.S., Japan tensions | CBC News

China's military on Monday dispatched air, navy and rocket troops to conduct joint military drills around the island of Taiwan — a move Beijing called a "stern warning" against separatist and "external interference" forces.

Based on early results, this isn't going to be quick at all.
